Top 10 Players in the 16th

Hmmm let me see. Would I rather my team be highly regarded in the state nationally and then exit the sweet 16 in the 2nd round. Which by the way preceeded the mass exodus at RH. Or be huge underdog, upset the 24th ranked team in the nation (Paducah Tilghman) in the first round on an unbelievable run to the state finals. Tell me any other team or school for that matter in the 16th that has come REMOTELY close to sniffing Saturday in the last 10 or 15 years, much less make it to the state finals. Honestly has any other school in the 16th won the sweet 16? I dont know.....

Last time I checked close doesn't count either. When was the last sweet sixteen that Ashland won? Before most of us were born. Those that live in glass houses......

Breckenridge Training won in 1946. You don't want to leave them out, do you?

Remotely close? How about the 2006 Rose Hill girls. I feel sure that you both supported them and remember them.;)

Championship? Well, it could be said that, if you are referring to Blazer rather than the "old days" of Ashland High School, the only state championship in the last forty years was won by the West Carter girls. If you want to get ancient about it, Clark County was a member of the 16th Region for a long time. The Cardinals won the state championship in 1951. Not as recent as 1961 maybe but somewhat more recent than the 1930s.

I couldn't care less about girls bball. That is why I'm posting in the BOYS BASKETBALL FORUM. Lets try to keep this thread gender specific. :thumb:

To begin with we werent talking about winning state championships. So your comments are completely off base with the current discussion. Kingfish brought up the idea of making an "impression" in the sweet 16. That is why I posted what I posted. I do not live in a glass house, nor do I pretend to. I would ask that in the future you make sure you understand what we are talking about before making your opinion known. :thumb:

But seriously, has anyone from the 16th other than Ashland Blazer ever won a state championship?

Ashland Blazer has never won a state basketball championship. Ashland High School did so in 1928, 1933, 1934, and 1961. Also, Clark County won in 1951 and Breckenridge Training in 1946. Both were in the 16th Region.

Thanks for your slanted history lesson. :thumb: I was pretty sure that no one other than Ashland in the 16th had ever won a state title, with the exception of Clark Co.

Exactly! The Ashland tradition was built back in my day (before consolidation). Larry Conley, Harold Sargent, Gino Smith great team. I remember going down to the old Ashland High School gym watching that team. No outlet passes just tip outs. Basketball was pure in those days.

Unfortunately the current administration at Ashland has tarnished the image of a once great program built by men like Coach Bob Wright.

GG, we would ask that you understand your history before asking questions. Kingfish and myself seem to know more about Ashland basketball history than you do and neither of us are Ashland guys.

Speaking of slanted history, "Ashland Blazer" has never won the Sweet 16.

Blazer didn't exist until 1963, duh!

If there is one thing I know its history. If you notice I NEVER asked anyone if Ashland Blazer or Ashland High School ever won a state title, or the years they won. Those are things I definitely know. I simply asked about other schools. Are things clear now??

Go back and read your own question you said that Blazer won the Sweet 16. History lesson #1, they haven't.

Actually that was lesson #2, kingfish gave you #1 with his answer to your first question. Which of course you disputed.

KHSAA records, say Paul Blazer, is who won KHSAA titles in '28, '33, '34 and '61. Is that not the same school, as I just presumed.

Ashland High was renamed Paul G. Blazer High School in 1963. Kingfish correctly stated that Ashland High not Ashland Blazer won the state titles.
