Top 10 Players in the 16th

Once a school combines or is up graded , they assume that schools records. That is how I understand the situation anyway.

KHSAA records, has Paul Blazer as winning.

I was not aware that KHSAA listings of records was infallible. If that is the case, why isn't Rowan County listed since Breckenridge Training no longer exists and those students were absorbed into Rowan County? Also, why is Clark County's championship listed as Clark County instead of George Rogers Clark High School? Inez was consolidated into Sheldon Clark so Sheldon Clark should be listed. Thyere are many others but this should suffice to make the point.

It goes for all or it goes for none. Thus, I still conclude that Blazer hasn't won squat.

To begin with we werent talking about winning state championships. So your comments are completely off base with the current discussion. Kingfish brought up the idea of making an "impression" in the sweet 16. That is why I posted what I posted. I do not live in a glass house, nor do I pretend to. I would ask that in the future you make sure you understand what we are talking about before making your opinion known. :thumb:

I would suggest that you reread your own post. "Honestly has any other school in the 16th won the sweet 16?" Sounds like you were talking about a state championship to me. None of which were in the last 10-15 years. Thanks for your support .

Correct me if I'm wrong I thought this forum was about the top PLAYERS in the region this year.

You are correct. I believe the point has been proven in this sidebar so we should return to the original subject. I'm sure Golden Gopher agrees and appreciates the rescue effort of his/her fellow Ashland advocate. Ashland is fortunate to have him/her and his/her blind faith and support. Whether right or wrong, he/she is loyal to the effort. I applaud him/her.

As for the top players, I would put Matt Thomas near the top. If he were playing on a more talented team, he would probably be the top player in the region. He would excel at Elliott County or Rose Hill were others could carry much of the load.

Thanks!!

Live in the present.

It is the 2007-08 season.

Yes Elliott County and Rose Hill are two of the top teams in the 16th.

It is not the 20's, 60's, or 70's anymore.

AHS (not PGB) had a rich tradition as did CCNY, LIU, and NYU in basketball and Army, Navy, and Lehigh in football. However, times change and they certainly have in this area. Those who controlled mainly because they were bigger than everyone else and had cooperative local employers have now lost those advantages.

Put Matt Thomas on Elliott County or Rose Hill and he would be all state. Of course, if he had played football at Russell, he would also be all state. Too bad but you have to have talent around you in order to get recognition. Nonetheless, he will still be a top player in the region.

Hmmm let me see. Would I rather my team be highly regarded in the state nationally and then exit the sweet 16 in the 2nd round. Which by the way preceeded the mass exodus at RH. Or be huge underdog, upset the 24th ranked team in the nation (Paducah Tilghman) in the first round on an unbelievable run to the state finals. Tell me any other team or school for that matter in the 16th that has come REMOTELY close to sniffing Saturday in the last 10 or 15 years, much less make it to the state finals. Honestly has any other school in the 16th won the sweet 16? I dont know.....

The Boyd Co. teams of 90"s. Especially the 94 team that got beat in the quarterfinals by 2 or 3 to Dunbar. If it had not been for a questionable charge call they should have won that game. Dunbar goes on to get beat by Faidale in the championship by 2 or 3. That team was easily a top 5 in the state and considered a tournament favorite behind Dunbar and Faidale. I know they won over 30 games that year.

That 1994 Boyd County team was a fine team. It was probably the best team in the region during that decade.

Put Matt Thomas on the space shuttle, send him to Mars, and he would be the best player on the entire planet. This attempt at an analogy makes no sense. If Santa Clause was President we wouldn't be at war and everyday would be Christmas. But guess what? He's not, and Matt Thomas doesn't play for Russell or Elliott. :thumb:

Sorry, Golden Gopher. I merely intended to state the obvious. I didn't intend to hit a raw nerve. Sometimes the truth is uncomfortable.

He did play for Rose Hill at one time.

Your point being?

Trying to educate a forum full of Ashland haters is a tough job. I know what you mean about the truth being uncomfortable. Its hard to admit that Ashland has been the most dominant athletic program in this region.
