I would have to remove #'s7,8 & 10-Ferguson, completely from the top 10. All are good players just not top 10. I agree Jackson still cannot shoot but I would have to put him higher than 10. Hall is another year away from cracking this list. I do not know what Collins has done to get there because I simply do not know who he is so he must not have stood out in the games I saw his team play. Ferguson can shoot, is fast & a good athlete but there are at least 5 more kids that are better players.

If Jackson is 10th best player in region and being recruited by some of the schools that I have heard he is being recruited by, then 16th region will be awesome this year.

 

 

Jackson is a top 50 player in his class nationally and only 4th in his region in the class of 2010. The soph. class in the 16th region must be awesome. I'm a huge fan of Hall and Collins but I don't think they are as good as Jackson, better shooters but not better overall players.

Chad Jackson is without a doubt one of the best players in the region. He's an extremely tough match up, because of his athleticism.

"IF" there is this much talent in our region alone based on what people have posted on here, then I would hope one of our teams will make it pass the 1st or 2nd round in the state tournament. If we don't have a team make it past the 1st round in the next couple of years, then one would have to question our assessment of talent and wonder if we ever venture outside the 16th region to see other talented kids and teams.

 

I do not question the loyalty of the poster's from this region to their teams, I do however question the judgement of talent. The term "D1" gets thrown around too often in our region, when in reality these kids often end up at NAIA schools or DII or DIII schools. There are some good players in our region this year, no doubt! Fortunately for some schools, they have more than 1 top player in the region playing on their team (Elliot, Rose Hill, etc..) Therefore we need to examine whether or not we are looking at the best player from each team, the player that's most valuable to their team, or are we looking at the most talented players in the region. If it's the later, then hands down it's Euton and Jackson, 1 and 2. Euton has a scholarship offer already from UK. Jackson is ranked nationally in his class. Positions 3-10 can be argued either way.

Excellent post based on reality and not "regionalism". Truthfully, the only 16th Region team to make any real kind of impression in the state tournament in the last ten years was the 2003 Rose Hill team which lost to Ballard in the second round.

Ashland's '96 team was state runner-up, I know that was 11 years ago. And Ashland's '01 team also lost in the 2nd round, and last years Elliott team lost in the 2nd round. I would say those teams made equal impressions as RH did in '03.

With all due respect to the two teams you mentioned, neither was remotely held in high regard around the state. In fact, the 1996 Ashland team wasn't either. They weren't expected to do much in the state tournament and were really considered to be a surprise (shock) to reach the finals where they were thrashed soundly by another somewhat surprise team, Paintsville. The more high profile teams, like PRP, were upset earlier in the tournament.

 

Although you didn't like them, and still don't, the 2003 Rose Hill team was well known around the state and even nationally to be a team with some exceptional talent. My point is that such a reputation is rare in the 16th Region.

The state champion football team that season scored the same amount in the championship game as the basketball team did against Graves Co. in the 1st round. 27!

Hmmm let me see. Would I rather my team be highly regarded in the state nationally and then exit the sweet 16 in the 2nd round. Which by the way preceeded the mass exodus at RH. Or be huge underdog, upset the 24th ranked team in the nation (Paducah Tilghman) in the first round on an unbelievable run to the state finals. Tell me any other team or school for that matter in the 16th that has come REMOTELY close to sniffing Saturday in the last 10 or 15 years, much less make it to the state finals. Honestly has any other school in the 16th won the sweet 16? I dont know.....

Remotely close? How about the 2006 Rose Hill girls. I feel sure that you both supported them and remember them.

 

Championship? Well, it could be said that, if you are referring to Blazer rather than the "old days" of Ashland High School, the only state championship in the last forty years was won by the West Carter girls. If you want to get ancient about it, Clark County was a member of the 16th Region for a long time. The Cardinals won the state championship in 1951. Not as recent as 1961 maybe but somewhat more recent than the 1930s.
