Could the mountains have 3 representatives in the finals?

Featured Replies

Could Corbin, Belfry or Breathitt, and Bell represent the mountains in their respective classes for a chance to bring home 3 titles to the mountains?

Good of a chance as any in those classes, I would say. Don't forget Pikeville or Hazard (with some breaks) being a darkhorse contender in 1A.

I think Bell and Belfry will get there. Thats 2

I look for Corbin to run into problems with Danville.

I look for Corbin to run into problems with Danville.

If Corbin runs into problems with Danville, it will be on the turf in Louisville. I think the Redhounds have a team that can beat the Ads this year.

I have always wondered something.

Do the Pulaski County schools (PC,SW,SHS) see themselves as Central Ky or Western Ky or Mountain teams????

I have never been 100% sold on Somerset as a Mountain Team, due to geography.

Just curious on how the fans/players/administration see themselves.

I expect to see Belfry in Louisville and perhaps either Pikeville or Hazard.

Bell County has to get by Lexington Catholic and Corbin has to contend with Newport Catholic, among others.

There is the legitimate possibility that they could have teams in 5 classes, well maybe not legitimate, but they do have an argument....

1A- Pikeville/Hazard really have it laid out for them this year. No Beechwood in the semi state, and the LCA district hasn't been overhwleming.

2A Corbin/Pburg are your best bets, but as pointed out they have a steep hill. If it were Corbin/Danville I'd feel confident, but nCC seems to eb the class of 2A.

3A Belfry/Sheldon Clark/Somerset are practically guaranteed a spot in the semi-finals, Breathitt may very well emerge past Mason/Russell.... 3A probably is your best chance..

4A To me Bell has a very leigitmate case. I ahve seen LexCath and was not overly impressed. The Knights are evry young this year, and their run defense seems to be vulnerable.

5A Johnson Central- Arguably the best team in the mountians is Johnson Central, but they have a murderer's row in the state's toughest class from top to bottom.

My opinion:

1A- YES

2A- NO

3A -YES

4A- YES (with lot of hesitation)

5A- NO

I do think 3 teams have a legitimate pretty good chance. It will be interesting to see how it shakes out.

I really like Hazard's chances in 1A and Belfry in 3A, and since Bell would get LexCath at home (if I read the bracket right), that might tip the scales a bit for the Bobcats in 4A.

As for 2A, not so much. I think Corbin would have a tough time with NewCath or Danville.

I could see Hazard having an off night somewhere with their offense over a 5 game stretch that would kill their chances. Pikeville is probably the better chance to get to the carpet.

bell would have to get past franklin county more than liekly in the semi finals and playing catholic before that would be two very tough games in a row..... any thoughts on how this might affect their chances?

I think there is a chance, but I also think that some of the teams have to get some breaks to get there. Hazard and or Pikeville need help, I have seen both, not bad teams for sure, but not quite sure they have all the stuff to go all the way. Corbin is a nice team, saw them earlier this year, don't know how they will handle the big speed. Belfry, if they stay healthy, has the best team in 3A. Bell Co. has thier best team in awhile, also their best chance, but will have to deal with Lex. Cath, but has a good chance IMO. Johnson Central has a very nice team, but has to deal with the North, not a good thing. I wish them all well!!!

Would love to see this. Been watching film on Corbin and they have really turned into an impressive ballclub this season. They have a legit shot at the carpet.
