October 29, 200718 yr I'm not quite in basketball mode yet (more of a UK football fan, always have been), but I guess with the exhibition on Wednesday it is not too early to think about the upcoming season. My only thought right now is that I hope to God that Ramel Bradley doesn't think he is the second coming of Acie Law IV. The kid is as arrogant as they come and if Billy G gives him a lot of freedom he may not let anyone else shoot the ball. I'll check back in after the bowl game, but until then I'm a UK football fan.
October 29, 200718 yr That is the quandry. I think this team should be far better at the end of the year than the second week of November. Most teams do improve, but I think with the transition of staff and development of players it is really true for this team. Many people are led to believe that BCG is much more uptempo than Tubby's teams were. That is not entirely true. I really don't think Tubby liked the slow down game, but their offense over the last few years, along with offensive rebounding and lack of transition game, snowballed into what became known as "Tubbyball". You will see an emphasis on transition defense from this group. You will see a toughness which departs from what we saw the last few years. 18-22 seems about right..that is why I went with the middle...20. There are many keys: Developing some sort of production offensively/defensively from the post. Joe Crawford finally stepping up and meeting his rep out of high school. Early reports have read that BCG has gotten on Crawford more than anyone. Joe has been lazy and it is his last time to answer the bell. BCG will not hesitate to bench him for someone who will give effort. Shooting the basketball at an effective clip...no wild swings that we have seen over the years. Couple other sidenotes... During practices, all players are expected to sprint and help teammate off the floor. When one player falls to floor everyone is expected to be there to help him up. I will look for that on Wednesday. If they dont they are considered selfish.... One story floating around is that on conditioning session had BCG show up as the players were stretching and was ready to get festivities started when one of the walkons had shirttail out...BCG asked if they were ready to practice...team replies yes...he questions rather frankly why one player has shirt untucked...boots player form practice and runs team for over an hour. I agree and like almost everything you said. I am glad we have a guy who is not going to let a team turmoil happen (twice). He seems to be in total control of the situation. I do think unlike Tubby he is willing to adapt the offense accordingly. Tubby would not. It was his way or no way. In the SEC I think BCG will recognize pushing the ball is going to be necessary at times. I feel bad for Patterson but think he will give it all he has. Like Morris he is being thrown to the wolves as a frosh..... This team is more than capable of having a very good season.
October 29, 200718 yr Author One difference between Patterson and Morris. PP has a motor...at times we were looking for a pulse with Randy.
October 29, 200718 yr I will postpone judgement on the UK season until they at least play a few games AND until the football regular season is over and we know which bowl game the Cats are going to.
October 29, 200718 yr 21-10 Regular Season (I've changed since my original 22-9 prediction) A Saturday loss during the SEC Tourney A 5 seed and loses to a #1 seed in the 3rd round (Sweet 16)
October 29, 200718 yr 21-10 Regular Season (I've changed since my original 22-9 prediction) A Saturday loss during the SEC Tourney A 5 seed and loses to a #1 seed in the 3rd round (Sweet 16) Sounds about right...
October 29, 200718 yr Is the game on live on Wednesday. I really have been caught a little off guard with the success of the football team, and havent really looked ahead to the TV schedule for basketball. And just for the record my prediction is right in line with hssrb. I will add one more loss to that though with a 20-11 record.
October 29, 200718 yr 32-4 National Championship Plans are submitted for Billy Clyde Court.
October 29, 200718 yr 18-14 No way they lose 14 game..IMO...I could Coach UK and win 20 games! :thumb:
October 29, 200718 yr I don't even watch anymore until SEC play starts. It is football season and that is all i watch. But just for fun, I will say they finish second in SEC east and go out in the sweet sixteen. Were have the Rex Chapmans of the world gone ?:cry::confused:
October 29, 200718 yr The injury bug seems to continue with the Wildcats. Ramon Harris and Perry Stevenson have both suffered broken noses during practice. They both will wear protective mask while their injuries heal. They are the latest casualties, joining Joe Crawford, Derrick Jasper and Jared Carter, who are still recuperating from their injuries. Also of note is the possibility of Jasper and Carter having to redshirt. Coach Gillispie said a decision will be made in 3-4 weeks. ... Other news out there is that Kentucky is going to offer big man Garrett Stutz and that he will accept.
October 29, 200718 yr Way too early for me to make any predictions as I've never seen them play running Coach G's system. If I had to guess just based on the talent level I'd say 22-10 and a 2nd round exit, although I think they have one of those teams where they could win 25 or could lose 15. Just depends IMO on how well they adapt to the system.
