But that's not the person I'm talking about. I'm talking about the (much more common) garden variety hot head with anger issues. People can sometimes do things in the heat of the moment they might otherwise not even think they were capable of.

 

And, IMO, that person would still be a 'garden variety hot head' without a gun...

I agree. However, if someone is crazy enough to get in a shootout with police, do you think they are going to not bring a gun because the rules say they can't have one?

Bottom line: Someone comes into my classroom with a gun, presently, good chance everyone in my classroom dies.

 

Someone comes into my classroom and I am armed, good chance I can take him down before everyone of us dies.

I cannot or could not answer that question till I would receive proper training on it. I would assume that, at minimum, rules/training that applies to police officers would need to be in place before teachers would be allowed to have concealed firearms.

 

And I probably will be one of the first targets whether I have a gun or not. Unfortunately, that is what has become of the profession I chose.

With proper training, you would know when to shoot. You all that are against people carrying on a campus think that every who would is just some high strung trigger happy fool. I am sure there are some of those out there, however...I am in favor.

No, I think we just understand human nature.

I think it's kind of like taking medicane.... you have to think of the risk/reward. The chances that fewer people would be killed in the handful of attacks we have had on campus is probably real. The chances that a whole lot more shootings would probably happen on campus is probably real too. I understand the protest but I think no guns is the lesser of two evils.

Interesting. I watch the news on a fairly regular basis. Havent seen any of those stories lately! Seems to me the people who end up shooting up the place are the ones that are carrying illegally anyway. This is why gun laws are ridiculous. The only people they hurt are the law abiding citizens. Do you really think someone who uses a weapon for a crime decides that he will go through all of the red tape to get a weapon legally? Not a chance...so the person like me who does go through all of the training, purchases legally, and carries legally is the one that has to suffer.
