^ In the two scenarios on the top of my head? Yes. I have explained it to some in the PM forum.....at Trinity we would never risk sportsmanship for a schematic advantage. It doesn't bode well for anyone.

 

I understand Trinity had several kids receive concussions in the PRP game. If that's the reason for bringing sophmores down I have no problem with it. You could conceivably be so thin at a spot that your options would be to either (A) Try and move and teach some kids a new position in a week or (B) move some sophmores down. I suppose Trinity figured since the junior backups next year (sophmores now) will be playing JV next year anyway they might as well get used to playing with this group instead of trying to develop a player within the freshman class. Does seem kind of harsh for the freshmen, but that seems to be Trintiy's philosophy. Hopefully the sophmores who got moved down were some of the kids who didn't get to play much JV because of the juniors who moved down from varsity.

Wow! Seems like a lot of hurt feelings out there about Trinity playing sophomores in a freshman game, which, I understand, Trinity lost. I don't think Elder had any objection. I am also tired of Trinity bashing over playing time issues for kids of any class. If the kids don't like it they can always go somewhere else and play. As coach Claiborne used to say, "that's why they make chocolate and vanilla ice cream." It is just a fact of life at Trinity High School football that most everybody has to wait his turn to play, if at all. The trade off is what it is. Either accept it or move on. Period!

 

News flash to those who don't get it or refuse to accept it, playing football at Trinity is much, much different than virtually anywhere else.

There you have it, I think that fairly sums up Trinity's playing time philosophy. As an ole ball coach once said, "Some players help the program by staying, others by leaving."

Correct me if I am wrong but I think they were mssing about 7 or more starters. They were missing the young Kragthorpe, Meyer, Switzer and the Bishop kid. They're down to 50 something players now and probably lacking some backups in a few positions which would force them to bring down some guys

This will be a character building year for the young Rocks. They have some great skilled talent. Put them with a decent supporting class and I wouldn't bet against them.

T certainly does not need to justify anything they do to X. Maybe it is time to take a break from the top of the mountain... all these darts and pot shots get old.

Are you kidding me? You're offended because folks wanted to know why Trinity brought down 7 sophmores to play in a freshman game? It's not a common occurrence. It's acutally very rare. So rare that no one from Trinity has answered when it last happened. I speculated that maybe it was because of injuries and thankfully one of the Rock faithful confirmed that 7 starters were out. But forgive us for questioning why the ALL MIGHTY TRINITY does anything.

The first I heard of sophomores playing in freshman games was at Lexington Catholic. The parents (of freshman players) I spoke with were fine with it, but I must believe that freshman games are for freshman, and sophomores either play on the varsity or the junior varsity team. At Trinity, it is not a numbers issue that it could be at many small schools.

 

Wonder how many sophomores did Elder played? My guess would be zero.

 

For what it is worth, I do not have a problem with juniors on the junior varsity team.

^ Again, we had our reasons, the parents AND kids were fine with it. That's really all that matters.

I will go out on a limb and say that more programs other than Trinity play sophomores during freshman games as well. In a game like this sometimes a little help is needed. Most of the time they are sophomores who dont get much playing time during JV games and need some experience.

I wonder how that's going over with the parents of the freshmen that used to start before the sophomores were moved down to the freshmen team.

 

I had heard the freshmen team was down to around 65 now.

 

 

 

I have to admit, I chuckled as I read the bolded part. While we have about 40 on this year's frosh Highlands squad, last year we had less than 30, heck it may have been closer to 25. I'm not sure how we managed to finish the season with only so few players.
