Here's another scenerio for you football buffs to test your knowledge of the rules.

 

Scenerio:

 

On 2nd down, QB A1 drops back and throws an underhand shovel pass forward to RB A2 who is behind the neutral zone. A2 then tosses the ball back to A1 behind the neutral zone. A1 then throws the ball forward beyond the neutral zone to WR A3. Before the ball reaches WR A3, DB B1 knocks A3 to the ground and intercepts the pass which he runs back to A's 20 ydl where he is tackled. What is the result of the play?

 

 

This is a situation play that I took directly from the NFHS casebook. I will post the correct response later this evening.

I have no idea, I'm guess since the player already touched the ball (RB) then the reciever is fair game. Once the ball is tipped (touched) the recievers are fair game... At least in the NFL :sssh:

I am most certainly wrong, but I thought the rule was the ball had to be tippied by a defensive player prior to the receiver being knocked down. In your scenario that didn't happen so I am going make a best guess and say Pass Interfence on the defender. Ball moved to the spot of the foul and automatic first down.

 

I am likely wrong and this is why I am not an official.

I'm not sure if it has to be defensive or an offensive player good point.

I would think that its pass interference on this play and the offense gets half the distance from the infraction, thats my guess.

HINT!!! Remember the recent rule change about multiple forward passes during a down! That is key to right answer.

This is a guess. I will say defensive pass interference. Penalty is assessed 15 yards from the previous spot automatic first down for team A. I believe with the new rule change everything prior to the defensive pass interference is now legal?

I'm going with this one. The shovel pass would be considered a forward pass making the 2nd pass illegal.

Beginning this year you are only allowed to have one forward pass. I think the play is blown dead and the ball is spotted where the 2nd forward pass was made, then the penalty for illegal forward pass would be enforced. I think?

 

Before the rule change, you can have as many forward pass's as you wanted as long as each one was thrown from behind the LOS. But after the 1st forward pass every reciever was fair game, there was no pass interference.
