David Bird - Standout Career Ended Early

Featured Replies

Trimble's running back David Bird was injured at practice on Wednesday night and was taken to the ER. At first, it was believed that the result was a bruised small intestine. By Thursday, his pain had not subsided and he was rushed to University Hospital in Louisville for emergency surgery to repair a tear in the intestine. The surgery went well and he is resting comfortably.

Bird ends a four year career with 4715 yards in 31 games (152 yds/game) on 511 carries (9.2 yds/carry).

Please keep David in your thoughts and prayers.

That's terrible news. Best wishes to the young man. Will we get to see him on a college field?

The injury should not prevent him from going to the next level, if that is what he chooses.

I would like to wish him a fast recovery and hope that still plays at the next level. How did the injury happen? Was it on a tackle, run?

Terrible news..... A great kid, a great career, a great year, all gone just like that. He will play on saturdays no doubt. Thoughts and prayers from Gallatin Co. for a speedy recovery.

OMG...Absolutely terrrible news. Hope and pray he recovers well and moves on to the next level.

It was pretty much a freak accident on the last play of practice. On a tackle, a player stumbled into him head first. That student suffered a minor injury, also - a pinched nerve of the neck.

Sorry to hear this TBG our kids enjoyed competing against him. Tell him he has prayers and good wishes coming from Frankfort.

I never like to see a kid have to end his career like that. The good news is that he is recovering and will be able to move on with his life.

My thoughts and Prayers go out to D. Bird and his family.

Best wishes and good luck in the future.

I hate to hear that he has to end his high school career early....but I am glad though, he is doing well after the surgery.

Best of luck to this young man...Nice stats he had put up!

Sad to hear this...About anyone...Im just so glad that all will be well...:thumb:

He sure is on my prayer list.
