I plead temporary insensitivity. It seems that every third thread I've looked at this week has involved someone being done wrong by a referee or coach. I think I reached my griping limit a little early this week.

It wouldn't have mattered if Garrard would've won by 50......Since Casey Co. forfieted, they didn't lose by 8 and automatically earned the final playoff spot.

I agree that this is a cheap way to get into the playoffs. Very cheap. Playing the games is the only way the kids get better. Very cheap.

Whoever said "that's why they play the game" never heard about this situation.

 

Will the powers-that-be revisit the rules to ensure that this doesn't happen again?

 

Not that it's likely to happen on this board, but before someone comes on here and says something to the effect of "it would have broken our kids' hearts not to get to the playoffs", think how the kids on the team that's left outside looking in feel.

I cannot say whether the Garrard players were told of this before the game or not. I know that when my wife and I arrived @ the Garrard/Rockcastle game last night, that was the big topic of converstation. Knowing our coaching staff, I would imagine they didn't tell the boys about it until after the game. What I do know is that Garrard Middle went out and played their hearts out last night and fought a tough Rockcastle Co. team tooth and nail right down to the end. The boys took the loss pretty tough, but I imagine it would've been a lot tougher had Garrard Middle done their part and won by 14 only to learn that Casey Co. got the final spot by forfieting and not even competing for that final spot. Casey will get it handed to them come playoff time.:lol: Once word gets around I wouldn't be suprised it they don't get 50 or 60 put up on them......or maybe if it gets too bad, they will just QUIT at halftime.

 

Again, I would like to take my hat off to the Garrard Middle School Cougars on a fine season. The boys fought hard week in and week out and left it all out on the field. They not only played hard all season, they played with class and sportsmanship. Cougar Pride!

The team Casey was playing would have had to have accepted the offer of forfeit. I would have lined up and played the game without Casey on the field, score more than 8, and just have a game with yourself, just to spite Casey.

Not sure you have to "accept" the offer on a forfeit. Isn't that what makes it a forfeit? A change of time or location would need both teams approval.

 

BTW, if this wasn't a Casey Co. home game, they would have to pay the officials. That would tick of our administration...

The conference consists of seven teams (one less than years passed with the closing of Harrodsburg). Included in the conference is Boyle County, Casey County, Danville, Garrard County, Lincoln County, Mercer County and Rockcastle County. Each team plays each other team once during the season for a six-game conference schedule. The top four teams in the standings advance to the playoffs; the bottom three do not qualify.

It's archaic, bordering on the ridiculous, when it comes down to a number of points scored in a game, and when something like this can be allowed to happen. Hope they come up with a better system, for the kids' sake.
