Middle School Team forfeits final game to ensure spot In Playoffs

Featured Replies

Casey County Middle School Football team forfeit's final regular season game and clinches spot in playoffs.

Going into their final regular season game with Rockcastle Co., The Garrard Middle School Cougars knew that the odds were stacked against them to earn a playoff spot. Garrard Middle knew that they had to beat Rockcastle Co. by at least 14 points and hope that Casey Co. loses their game by more than 8 points. Before the Garrard/Rockcastle Co. game even started, the Cougars hopes of earning that playoff spot were erased upon learning that Casey Co. forfeited their game as not to risk getting beat by more than 8 points, thus Casey Co. earned the final playoff spot.

I want to applaud the Garrard Middle School Cougars on their effort last night in Rockcastle County. It has been a long season for the Cougars and they played their hearts out every single week.

Sounds like a bizarre way to "earn" a playoff spot.

I really the administration at that school has a talk with that coach, what kind of message are you sending to your players?

You are assuming the administration was not on board with the plan.

I do agree that this is the wrong way to get into the playoffs.

If this is the case then it absolutely a horrible decision by those involved. IMO it is sending the wrong message to the kids playing on both teams.

Someone should step in and make them play the game...

Anyone know what the final score of a forfeited football game is?

Basketball I believe is 2-0.

Baseball is 9-0, I guess 6-0 for that age.

It shows HHS losing in the playoffs 1-0 in 94...

1-0.

I think the more relevant question is what was the Garrard/Rockcastle score last night. Unless Garrard won by 14+ points this discussion is pretty much moot.

I disagree. We're not talking about a playoff spot as much as we are about doing things the right way and setting a good example. Basically, their coach told them that it's ok if the principal wants to see you and you don't go, after all, something bad could happen...

Speaking in those terms, you are, of course, right.

I plead temporary insensitivity. It seems that every third thread I've looked at this week has involved someone being done wrong by a referee or coach. I think I reached my griping limit a little early this week.
