USF senior Mike Jenkins disagreed with Saban's statement, even noting Saban offered Jenkins a full scholarship to LSU when Jenkins was a senior at Bradenton Southeast High School.

 

Ironically, USF freshman running backs Jamar Taylor and Mike Ford both initially signed with Alabama. Taylor enrolled at Alabama in January and was the Tide's leading rusher in the spring game, but transferred to USF over the summer to be closer to his family.

 

Ford signed with Alabama out of Sarasota High School but did not qualify. He went to a prep school before coming to USF in January.

The thing is, at the heart of the matter, this is just sour grapes. Both teams are obviously following the regulations of their league. It doesn't matter how many partial qualifiers USF or Bama has. Saban should have tempered his remarks--no rules were broken and whatever the SEC regulations are Bama should have a better team given their resources. They don't and I guess that bothers Saban a bunch. Saban is only in his first year at the school and shouldn't complain about what he was left with--he's getting paid too much for that. USF has played within the rules given to them and they've earned their #6 ranking--Saban needs to quit crying and figure out how to get the Tide back on track.

Grey shirts are not all non qualifiers. You are painting a lot of kids who happen to have excellent academics into a group where they don't belong.

Chichester is an example...couldn't get into Ohio State.

One of those DB's UL got out of Florida last year, couldn't get into Florida..

It has played a role, but probably not as significant as one as Saban is suggesting.

You can't say its nothing when a face of the school takes a shot at the entire institution and , without naming names, insinuates that "their kids" aren't very bright. Classless .

 

IMO this is exactlly what I meant in my ealier post. Peope do not like Saban so thery blow up anything that he says to other levels. Saban shouldn't have have made the statement that he did, I said that. I just think, like I said that a lot people do not like Saban, never will and jump on anything and everything they can to discredit him.

I also agree with another post on this thread in that Saban should concentrate more on his own team.

I just don't think that makes him "trash" or "classless".

Nick Saban is not going to win a personality contest anytime soon. I don't think that anyone will dispute that.

Saban will win a NC sooner rather than later at Bama and that is what Bama is paying him to do.

Saban didn't bring it up. Ray Melick a reporter who is like some we know around this area who likes to stir the pot to make himself look good ask Coach the question.

 

He answered it and Ray had a follow up. We lost Mike Ford to USF who was going to be a starter as a freshman, we have one now. Mike loved Bama and knew he would be on TV a lot and be a starter.

 

If your grades are not up to getting in that is one way, the other ways is ACT/SAT scores and classes that you might not take also can hurt you. Mike had the grades for Bama but couldn't pass the ACTs. He is now at USF. Coach also said he was glad Mike got into school, and said he wants to see kids get into college no matter where they go...CLASSLESS.. I don't think so.

 

Look for the reporters from Miami run with this one and trash the man.

Yeah I wouldn't quite call it classless nor call Saban trash. It did come across as a bit whiny because he knew the rules when he took the job. I'd say he wouldn't quite phrase things the way he did but a little bit much is being made out of it.

Yeah, you are right Joe. Like I said he shouldn't have mentioned any school.

 

The warbuzzard coach said something about Mike Ford and almost the same thing when they lost to USF, but the media didn't bother with it.

 

Some Bama fans said he should have just not bothered with the guy's question.
