This game concerns me as a Tiger fan. Each time I talk to someone from Beechwood I learn about another star player they may not be playing this week after getting pounded by CCH.

Even if they do previal victorious, it is still hard to come to P-burg and leave completely healthy. The Blackcats play a very physical (borderline controversially physical) type of football, especially at Josh Francis Field. Whatever bumps and bruises the Tigers may have entering this game have a high likelihood of being magnified.

I honestly think that the Tigers have a little too much experience and skill for the Blackcats, but if Beechwood doesn't shake the cobwebs of last week, this could be a dangerous game. It is very possible for CovCath to beat Beechwood two weeks in a row if ya catch my drift.

Additionally, P-burg matches up well with the Tigers offensive philosophy. Pburg is best suited for stopping running teams, and playing a big, physical running team is nothing new for P-burg. If Beechwood's QB is able to play, I see him causing all sorts of trouble with his quickness, but if he doesn't then this game could be closer than what alot expect, possibly even an Upset special.

And this would be an upset why? BHS playing a top 10 ranked 2A school, I don't see it as an upset. Traveling 3 1/2 hrs by bus and playing is tough for any team, a BHS win would be an upset!

The Top Ranked 1A team and one of the state's most storied histories, who is ranked in the Top 25 teams in the state OVERALL in nearly every publication (Cantrall Ratings, Lit, Massey, etc) taking on a perennial solid Pburg team that hasn't advanced to the State Semifinals since 2001. Yes Pburg is a Top 10 2A team, but the #1 1A should be able to beat the 5-10 AA teams on a regular basis. Just look at the poll on this game and you will see that this would be considered an upset. I would love nothing more than to see a Pburg victory for not only mountain football, but mutual respect for their program froma longtime rival, but to say this wouldn't be considered an upset is a stretch.

..and just to be sure, you do realize that I am saying it would be an upset for Pburg to beat beechwood and not the other way around, right?

You would have been better off playing in Morehead. Be prepared to play 11 on 16 football.

easy, I am sure they will have a good crew on this one.....Does anyone ever know the officiating crew prior to the game?

What was the problem with the Bath game at P'burg?

I have not seen P-burg play this year, but I have seen Beechwood. Beechwood is a solid team. A trip to eastern Kentucky will not detour the Tigers' march towards a state championship... Beechwood by three touchdowns. Period.

P-burg #9 in the Mountain Top 10 solidifies above prediction.

Did I hear that Prestonsburg is honoring their '93 state runner-up team that night?

Anyone else heard anything about this??

Pburg is one of the hardest places in the mountains to play and Beechwood will have to play at the top of their game to win.

A saturday game. Since I have been working nights Ive missed high school football. I may have to make a trip home for this one. Beechwood will roll in this one by 4 tds.

The jury is still out on Pburg. They lost 12-7 to the only quality team so far they have played, Breathitt. But Breathitt hasn't played a very tough schedule either and their strength is somewhat unproven too.

This week is the litmus test for Prestonsburg and we'll judge them by these results moreso than anything else so far this season.

...

Most years this would be true, EKU. But this Prestonsburg team, on both sides of the ball, is a little different than "typical". Since the first game, there have been distinct differences in Blackcat schemes. I think it's both good and bad.

Offensively, Coach D. seems to have embraced a far more conservative style. To the negative, it has lessened P-burg's usual "big play at any time" threat. To the positive, turnovers are way down and ball control is way up.

Defensively, Coach James has favored more of a balanced (perhaps even tilted toward defending the pass) philosophy. The Blackcats have played a lot of 3-4, 4-3, and 5-2 fronts, putting an extra DB on the field. To the negative, Prestonsburg has given up more 1st downs and been on the field longer. To the positive, no opposing team has scored an easy one (read: big play).

It'll be interesting to see if the same defensive philosophy is used, or how it'll be changed vs. a Beechwood team that plays a top notch classic hard-nosed style offense.

:bunny:

Beechies beat the refs, mountains, bus ride, and oh yeah the football team 28-7.:D

P'burg 14

Good luck to both would like to go to this game
