I only see 2 questions about this game...............

1. Will guru finally make a trip east?

2. How many people from Beechwood will find time for apple days?

Beechwood should have no trouble playing with the tough prestonsburg crowd. After playing at Covington Catholic, you are prepared to play anywhere in the state. Beechwood will be without there starting quarterback (Cody Elliott) and running back (Tommy Bankamper). With that said, I think it will be a close game but Beechwood ends up winning 23-13.

What does this comment imply?? Not agreeing or disagreeing, I am just curious.........

Prestonsburg has acquired a reputation for rough play since '01-'02.

There was a player on that squad who was wayyyy over the top in his physicality on both sides of the ball. This young man, though an excellent player, had a bad habit of trash talking/taunting. He had more personal fouls and unsportsmanlike conduct penalties called on him through his career than any other entire team I've ever seen.

The reputation has lingered after he left. It persists, IMO, because opposing teams/fans now watch the Blackcats with that reputation in mind. When that's taken with the fact P-burg DOES play a physical style (that sometimes goes too far, like in ANY football game), it serves as confirmation of the "rumor". In other words, if you come to a football game looking for "dirty play" from a team, you're likely to spot it - it's just the nature of the game.

Here's a telling fact: Prestonsburg has had fewer personal fouls and unsportsmanlike penalties than has its opposition the past 2 seasons.

Of course, other folks have differing opinions. That's the nature of BGP's... ;)

Ill give you credit that last year was a clean Pburg team. I was a senior on 01 team, very physical, and they did have a lot of late hits then, we got spit on that year 2 walking under bleachers haha.

But yeah Im not saying that to knock you guys, nothing but respect for Pburg, wish we could have continued the series.

This sounds pretty much dead on to me as an explanation, although those teams in the 2001-2004 range definately had more than one player who was the guilty party for pena;ties of the 15 yard variety, it truly was a case of a few bad apples spoiling the bunch.

I also think that Derrossett's coaching style (very agressive playcalling, lots of blitzes on defense) also aided to the reputation. The aggressive stlye of play that Pburg has ultimately utilizes will increase the risk of penalties overall on both sides of the ball, when more yellow flies in the air it makes it much easier to assume that one personal foul penalty may ahve happened more than once

Also, Pburg has always been willing to schedule quality opponents which results in closer games, we all know that with closer scores emotions are higher and fans become more critical of officials, this ultimately will have an affect of the connotations of the Blackcat program when fans give their postgame thoughts.

Our team has 4 starters that probably won't play Saturday or if they do, they certainly won't be anywhere close to 100%.

1. Quarterback

2. 2 Running Backs

3. 1 Tackle

But, let me say this, we are pretty deep in talent and guts, so even with the walking wounded, we still might be able to pull it out. It all depends on what level of football they have in that area.

"It is What it is" and time will tell.

The injury bug, unfortunately, takes turns with everyone. I remember a 2003 Lawrence Co. team that looked really good in the first game, but ended up with 5 or 6 starters going out with season-enders. It was a shame for those boys and the team.

The good thing is, these are just regular season games. Hopefully they get well and back to form before one-and-out season.

For all you folks coming down from NKY for the game, I'd suggest the following route:

I-75S --> I-64E --> Bert Combs Pkwy all the way into Prestonsburg (just stay on the same road you've been driving another 18 miles past the official "end" of the Parkway)... I'm not aware of any current road contruction, although there's usually spot work somewhere on the Parkway.

Many like taking the AA. It'll work, but it will add 20-30 mins. to travel time. The AA is really better to use when going to the Ashland and Louisa areas.

About hotels - This is going to be very, very difficult. This weekend is Paintsville's Apple Day Festival. Rooms typically are gone a couple months before now, though you could get lucky Saturday night (NOT Friday !!!) I'd suggest staying with family/friends if you have them locally.

Seems you have the inside scoop but I hope you are wrong:cry:

Anyone else heard anything about this??

From what I'm hearing that's true. I've also heard that they will be honoring all players that played there during the 90's. Not sure about the last part but fairly positive about the honors for the 93 squad.

LOL...no.

The only players honored at halftime were those in Prestonsburg Elementary league football.

True... (sorry I posted the last one...)
