I think hunting is okay, in its proper setting. But this intra-city, hit squad plan is just ludicrous!

 

I can't believe so many people would be in favor of this idea. I think it's going to make us a national story--if it hasn't already--and not in a good way.

 

I'd rather have this story than one about the only city in the country that has a kid gord by a deer...

They're talking about roping off a circle, setting bait, and then picking off any deer that wander in. I just don't think that's a very nice thing to have going on in your community.

The way I understood it, they're doing both.

I see no problem with killing them. They are a real nuisance and the fact they are getting to the point that they aren’t afraid of humans can be dangerous. Shoot them, please.

If they need another bow sniper......give me a call!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Shoot, I'm going to have to take my stand down??? Seriously, I also have confidence that if it gets approved it will be done safely. At this point I doubt that it will happen, given the amount of opposition.

Come on, BF, I know you are being funny, but that is a pretty poor characterization of bow hunters. Bow hunters, as a group, are diligent, dedicated and skillful. They practice good ethics and they practice their craft, because with bow hunting, shot placement is paramount. Bowhunters are safer and more careful than their gun hunting counterparts and they are the furthest thing from "snipers" and they certainly don't wander around shooting at everything that moves.

 

I realize many in Ft Thomas have no exposure to hunters and having bow hunting going on within the city limits seems extreme. I don't know if I would want it going on either in a residential area like FT. But, if you want to limit the deer population, the only alternative is really to trap them and move them, and that is very expensive option and I doubt would be nearly as effective.

 

Hunting is a life/death issue and may seem brutal, but please, don't mischaracterize hunters and hunting. It is a very useful tool for population control of animals such as deer and without it, they would likely push themselves to extinction. Hunters are not the half-cocked, blood-thirsty murderers that some of the anti-hunting groups want to protray us as. That is an issue for another thread, I suppose, and if anyone would like to discuss the virtues/evils of hunting in todays society, I'd be more than willing to participate.

Whatever they do, I hope they donate all the venison to Hunters for the Hungry. :thumb:

Birdsfan, this is not the only city that is allowing hunting inside the city limits. Many states in the northern part of the country have to have controlled deer, and bear hunts to stop the overpopulation of animals in the urban setting.
