As the population of deer continues to rise, you had better invest in a nice piece of hardware to keep the coyotes away from little fluffy when he/she goes outside. This is a fact, its not just cute little ole Bambi and friends running around, its the additional critters that will come along with them that will cause even greater issues!

 

Dont get me wrong, I think deer are some of the most beautiful creatures roaming the earth. However, its also time to do something about the population around here. You are NOT going to stop development...that is just a fact.

I don't think the coyote population in the urban area can be definitively tied to deer population. Anyway, that's not the point. The problem is not in the end; it's in the means to that end.

If you talk to anyone that is familiar with wildlife...they will tell you that in fact the more deer population you have, the coyotes will definitely find them. We do not have a major issue at this time with coyotes, however it wont be long behind.

 

I am not sure where you are getting your information on these hunts. The only info that I have gotten, and its comes from a pretty reliable source (one of the could/would be hunters), is that it would only be in wooded areas as far away as it can be from the heavier populated areas. We are not going to have Johnny Bowmaster running down the street chasing these animals.

This is interesting and I wouldn't try to come up with a solution without knowing the exact lay of the land in Fort Thomas. I will offer both a pro and con to bow hunting.

 

Pro. A bow hunter can blend into a 1/2 acre wooded area and if you don't see him go in or come out with the deer, you would not know he was there. Also, if you give him that much space, there is no danger of a stray shot injuring someone outside the area. Most bowhunters consider 35 yards a long shot and if they shoot from a stand or other elevated position, a miss will hit harmlessly into the ground.

 

Con: If you are of the Bambi loving, hunting is cruel persuasion, an arrow wound is seldom a quick kill. There is a fair chance the deer will run out and die in your yard.

I am not sure where you are getting your information on these hunts. Mine comes from newspaper and local magazine reports, as well as from what's been reported at city council meetings.

While I can certainly understand the concern, I think you have to concede that you will never see someone in the streets hunting deer. Dont get me wrong here, I am not a hunter, never will be..but these buggers are everywhere. If I was the Rambo type...it woudl be nothing to use a survival knife to take out 9-10 each evening in my area.

I think Highlands Deer Slayers sounds a lot more intimidating than Bluebirds. :walk::walk::walk:

I think the most important thing that article points out is that there are other ways to control deer. I'd also love to know how many "deer atacks" there have been...if any.
