Its always exciting when you win and you can say, wow I just made more on that bet than I did in 6 months investing $10,000 in a CD. However, know that your losses can prove MAJOR and kill any positive investment return you get on a legitimate one.

In the end you usually dont come out on top in sports betting. You may win one year overall but the next you take a bath. Its the way it is, however, that movie that was just out with Matthew Mchonnehey (sp?) was pretty interesting. Also, tune into sports talk radio on Saturday mornings and listen to those crazy guys who want you to call in and you start to realize its a HUGE business. Probably more MOB control than we would like to think.

If I ever get to the point where I'm betting 10,000 I hope I'm smart enough to invest rather than gamble it away.

Again, the main reason is this: I just hated losing money more than I enjoyed winning money. Simple as that.

I highly doubt the mob has much play in major sports. When they do have something going it's almost always outed. This tennis betting scandal is going to be huge IMO, but I think it's going to be a bigger story in Europe.

I'm not talking about sports. The mob has it's hands in alot of things in this country.

Don't do the boat thing. However, I do go to Turfway, Churchill, Keeneland and River Downs to play the ponie's and every now and then will bet a football game or two. I have been to Vegas several time's and the boats are just junior circuit to me. JD

Otherwise, I don't even buy Lottery Tickets.

 

The only sports betting that I do is to buy "squares" for the Super Bowl.

Here is the thing with Sports Betting. If you do your research and keep things under control, you can actually win some money. You should never, EVER, get torn up over a loss and then make a high bet to try and cover the loss. Just take a loss like a man and move on to the next day. Also, I bet because my wife and I make decent money and I sell a few things on eBay here and there to make a little extra money for fun. If you have the extra money and can afford to lose it, go for it. If you're trying to pay your bills by winning bets, then you had better quit ASAP.

The only gambling I have been doing is poker occasionally and then on the golf course when my uncle, my cousin, and myself get together and play skins. Earlier in the year I was going to the boat about once a week but its been months now since I have been back.

 

Last year I was big into betting sports. Me and a friend would put in 25 bucks into an account and make our picks together. We would try to find 2 to 3 team parlays we liked and put 20 to 30 bucks on them. Once the account had some decent funds in it we would play some 5 to 7 team teasers and put around 50 bucks on them. We didnt fair so well, we lost a lot an then if we would hit a teaser for say 550 bucks or so it wouldnt be long before we blew it all back.

 

I havent bet since last college football season but everybody talking about it makes me want to get back in it. But for now I'll stay away.
