I must admit I am completely naive and uninformed on this topic. I have noticed more and more sports betting threads on here and it seems to be something that is very widespread. It made me wonder do that many average people in Kentucky bet on sports events?

 

I'm talking about normal folks who go to school or work for a living, have a car, a house, kids and a dog. Is sports betting a big part of your life?

 

If so, how do you do it? Do you have a bookie or do you bet online or what?

 

I think it would be interesting to know your age and your betting habits (whether or not you place sports bets, how often, and how much you bet on average and on what sports, etc.)

I'll go first

 

I'm in my late 30s and I have never placed a bet on sports. My gambling experience is limited to dorm poker games in college, the occasional trip to the dog track where I placed my $2 bets, and the very rare lotto ticket.

 

I guess I am termed a non gambler, but it isn't from any special convictions, it just doesn't appeal to me.

I'm probably the strangest of birds -- I follow the lines, trends, and patterns closely but don't bet on games. I used to bet a little on College Football and Basketball, however, it just ruined my sports viewing.

 

I do go to Belterra about 2x a year and play black-jack. I also play in Hold 'Em tourneys about 4x a year. Not to mention, of course, I handicap the ponies several times a year.

I honestly believe gambling is in my blood. My grandpa went to the horse racetrack every day of his adult life. Even the day he died. Never bet more than $2 on a race and kept his gambling money in the freezer,

 

My dad is not as much into the track but still likes to wager a bit here and there.

 

I don't know what it is, I guess I just need the action.

 

I have a guy I make my bets with. Friend of a friend, if you will.

 

I started with $50 about 3 years ago, when I was 24, I set aside to gamble with. I was poor then, haha. That account today has a few thousand dollars in it, and it's all gambling winnings. Now, I've won about $3000 the last few years on the Derby (3 straight years hitting the exacta, Bluegrass Cat was a miracle longshot). But most of it is sports and poker winnings. I've been lucky enough to not to have to put any more money into my gambling account since that first $50 investment.

 

I usually bet anywhere between $20-$200 a game, depending on how good the line is.

 

I never bet on baseball, very rarely on NBA, but I love college Basketball. I love NFL and College Football betting too.

Honestly, my grandpa was a little old Italian guy who was an absolute charachter! Funny, caring, smart, and very proud of his family.

It's amazing what a son of an immigrant who never made it past 7th grade made of his life. (Although, he was given an honorary diploma from Newport Catholic, only time I ever saw him cry. It was an awesome day!)

I really enjoy the science of it. I like studying the trends, I love looking at 3 and 5 year windows for teams ATS. I love using factors like home-field, weather, motivations, etc. to draw conclusions and anticipate out-comes.

 

Again, the reason I stopped putting my money where my mouth is was because it truly ruined my viewing experience. That, and I hated losing money more than I enjoyed winning money.

I am in a couple money leagues, but I don't really get in them to win money, it's more recreational than gambling.

 

I guess the literal definition of putting up money for a chance at winning money makes it gambling, I just don't really consider it the same.

I truely enjoy betting on college football and NFL. Baseball is really hard to bet on unless you parlay 3 or 4 games. I had a local bookie for a while, but generally save my sports betting for my annual Vegas trips. I'm in my 40's and love to gamble but I can honestly say I do it responsibly.

I used to play what I call the "card" or the weekly games and a occaisional bet with friends. All for not a lot of money, mostly for fun. I couldn't afford to gamble big money.
