Navy's Reggie Campbell took the kickoff and ran full speed ahead up the middle with all the force his 168-pound body could generate. Campbell, almost always the smallest and fastest man on the field, hit a wall of XXXL-sized scarlet jerseys and was slammed to the ground at the bottom of the pile. He got up slowly, limping off. This gutsy kid, a slotback who already spent three quarters being chased and tackled by gangs of defensive linemen and linebackers, all weighing at least 100 pounds more than him, was then given a dose of Rutgers' student section class. This is the same school that had 10K protesting against Imus and I am sure it is some of the same people that were doing that were saying this stuff. Show some class these are the people that are serving our country and protecting YOU!!

However, in no way do I believe they were treating the USNA players any different than they would have if it were Louisville, South Florida, or UConn. I think it is a bit of an overreaction to say "this is how you treat people who may die for this country?" I understand the overreaction but its still an overreaction. Young kids can be stupid. Are we surprised?

Are we surprised? I'm definatley not up in arms over the fans actions against Navy players, but I will say this. At Louisville, Army was never treated the same way as other teams. In any case, these players are big boys and will have much bigger issues to deal with than obscene chants, which like it or not are part of college football.

Are we surprised? cshs, I've watched your posts on here for a couple years (and enjoyed them), but this one surprises me. Yes, of course they recognize a difference between this school and other schools that come through there. Any time Navy, or Army, or Air Force come to play, there is a level of respect that is engendered (at least everywhere else I have seen) just by the sheer fact that they are there competing, and oh by the way, usually with a couple of regiments of cadets or midshipmen in full dress filling up a section of the stands. To somehow justfiy this as "its just young kids being stupid" ignores the vast body of evidence that young kids everywhere else seem to respect Navy. No, this is a Rutgers problem, its disgusting, and a symptom of something sicker going on there.
