It is hard to leave the Mercer championship out of this thread. The thing is no matter how anyone tries to spin it, even if it was the KHSAA's fault--and it was. Mercer won the 2A title playing with a 3A team. No one except the Mercer faithful will ever accept it as a rightful title and they shouldn't. Mercer had an unfair advantage and they should have won the title without any problem at all. However, the KHSAA decided that Mercer should get to compete for a championship that they were to big for. We should all just suck it up and agree that numbers don't mean anything and it was okay for Mercer to be 3A and play 2A. So they should in fact be the 2 1/2 A Champs from last year. Of course we'll get to see how they do playing schools their own size this year---so far they are 0-1.

Wrong. They beat a very good Greeneville, TN school two weeks back. Greenville is a 4A school in the eastern part of the state. Do some research and you'll find that, except for the past two seasons when they were about .500 or so, they have been a fixture in the 4A playoffs in Tennessee for a while.:sssh: :thumb:

I like Pulaski County's team speed and their hunger to win. I think with this being the first home game the advantage goes to the Maroons. Your final score: Pulaski 34 Mercer County 31 in a close one.:dancingpa

I am going to have to go with Mercer, I just don't see them losing 2 in a row right now. Mercer 42 PC 20.

How many did Mercer Co. lose to graduation?

I think I read in another post they lost 22 to graduation.

Mercer's D has been solid, what kind of O do the Maroons run?

Hope MJ mixes it up a little, this week. Aweful predictable last week.:walk:

Theres no doubt in my mind that MJ will mix it up a little bit, truth be told, he did last week....it's just that sometimes it didn't look that way. Then again, Im a firm believer that, in most cases, no matter what you run, you have to execute it, that's what has to happen and it will:thumb: . That scoring drive Mercer had, after watching the film yesterday, Mercer had 4 plays in a row insided Lincoln's 50 that went for at least 10 yards a piece...if Trevor (he just happened too, he's a talent, I hope people realize that and DO NOT GIVE UP on him...great kid, great attitude, great talent) doesn't trip up, he walks in from 11 yds out. That would have been 50 yards in 5 plays, TD. The boys executed those plays perfectedly, they looked great. Lincoln stayed in their same defense too, except for some slight variations in it, but it still fell under their same base look

It's not what Mercer is doing on offense, it's how well they are doing it, that's all. They will get better, I promise you. The coaches believe, the players believe. That's a good mix for success.:thumb:

I dont believe Pulaski will win this game. All they have to do is contain Muse and its obvious who the next threat is; Winston Hines, if he gets the ball all night its obvious that every play is going to go to him, so if Mercer can shut down Hines and Muse their is no way Pulaski will win. PC O-line better be ready to block Fri. night otherwise it will be a long one.

Mercer -35

Pulaski -19

I think I read in another post they lost 22 to graduation.

Correct, their entire backfield (QB included) with the exception of Nathan Griffith, along with both TE's who played fullback last year. They also lost their entire secondary, their starting nose tackle, two other DE's and their leading tackler at ILB.

For whatever reasons, some seem to forget that. So, all things considered, this bunch has done fine and they are going to continue to get better and better. They're going to win, and you know what, they might just possibly lose another game or so. Either way, they're a great bunch, a talented group, a bunch that I believe might have recieved exactly what they needed to refocus for the remainder of the year.

Like all of us have had in our years playing, growing up, in our jobs, etc...sometimes when you think you might be a little higher up on a mountain than you actually are, you need a swift kick to the butt to keep you in check. I think that's exactly what happened, and IMHO, I don't exactly know if it was a bad thing, all in all. I think there might just be a "hunger" back.:thumb:

Don't think they can hold Mercer to 14...it would be nice however. Look out Chris this bunch will be going after you hard, then key on Winston. You better be ready to strap it on tight because you'll take some shots. Count on it. You can air it out a little more to loosen them up.

That would be a whole lot of points allowed for a Mercer team that has only given up 28 all season.

That's what I was thinking. One thing Mercer has done the last couple of years is play pretty good defense.

I don't think that is necessarily true. A lot of us Mercer 'faithfuls' do see the advantage we had last year and yes, we should have played up a class IMO. That didn't happen, so let it die. I think this year's team and schedule is the more accurate 'measuring stick' to see just how tough the Titans team really is. So far, they've had to play their butts off to get the 2 wins they've gotten and it isn't going to get any easier with the exception of the trip to TN later this month. I've heard that team is pitiful.

You might want to do some research, Watertown Tn. is 3-0. Sorry to get off the game but I had too.

There is no way the Mercer D that I saw last week gives up 44 to Pulaski. Mercer 21 PC 7

Don't be suprise if Pulaski Co. wins this one, they are a up and coming football team that going to suprise some folks this season. So look out. PC in a mild upset.
