I just cant see Dayton giving up that many points. Holmes has a high powered speed offense and couldn't rack up that many points :lol:

 

Beechwood has size, strength and speed. And when Daytons defense will be on the field most of the game since the offense wont do anything for Dayton. Those big guys on the line will wear down that Dayton defense...

Same things were said 2 years ago when Bellevue played Beechwood and I believe Bellevue won than game. The arrogance that some Beechwood fans have that every once in a while yes a team can play with them is incredible. No on a consistent year after year basis Bellevue, Dayton, and Ludlow have not proven to be competitive.........but they do have years where they can and when you point this out the Beechwood faithful become very arrogant. This season Dayton has the ability to compete with Beechwood. That is all anybody is really saying. And.............if Holmes is not a good win what does that say for Holy Cross getting ripped by Holmes? Dayton is a good team.......and they can play with teams on a given night.

You are right about what you said about Ludlow, Bellevue and Dayton these schools do go through cycles in having good teams...However this Dayton team is missing one thing and that is their QB from last year, without him the offense is just not enough this year, because he did so much for that team...

ok I was trying to refrain from this thread, but I have got to get this out...

 

first off, if were going to talk about a kid, lets refer to him by name, "the QB from last year" is Hightchew. I'd imagine most in the 3 river cities know the name, just like the people in Dayton, Bellevue, and Ludlow still know the names (Mike) Lewis and (Lincoln) Adams. We all still have the visual in our minds of one or the other ruining each others playoff hopes in the last couple years...

 

Secondly, yeah, Hightchew was a good QB, but Dayton people know that roughly 4-6 series a game went to Ellis... Why? maybe is was because Hightchew was hurt, or needed a breather.. but maybe it was preparing Ellis for this year. I'm here to tell you that Hightchew has exactly 2 things on Ellis: 1) a big arm 2) 2 years of experience.

 

Now lets not count those two things out as they matter, but all the other aspects of being a QB and leader Ellis matches or in some cases may surpass him. Athleticism, smarts, decision making, hard worker... they both did all that. He has nearly the exact same line, it is almost identical. What Ellis can't do that Hightchew could is throw the ball 50 yards down the field. Dayton chooses to make up for this by letting the young kid with a pretty pure passing arm run the 2 minute etc. However what they lose is that senior savvy that Ellis brings to the field. I'm telling you the kid is better than what you have seen this year.

 

Now that is not saying that Dayton will have an explosive offense, just saying that they have a lot of what they had last year... and if Dayton does not win the game I can guarantee it will not be solely on the play of the quarterback...

Well first of all I am from one of those 3 river cities you mentioned, but his name happened to just slip me head lately in these post, so I figured I would just call him last year QB instead of maybe messing up and calling him the wrong name...Secondly you make good points about this years QB Ellis, but until he and the offense shows much of anything, I will continue to have my opinion that the offense is going to be what holds Dayton back this year, and why they wont beat Beechwood or even be that close with them IMO...

Dayton dont need to put any pressure on Ellis all he has to do is give the ball to the play makers. If they let they let the play makers play they should be in good shape. I think Dayton needs to get the ball to Young,Turner and Wynn and try and let them make something happen. Both teams have two reliable go to guys when plays need to be made in Wynn in the past two weeks and Elliot against Dixie. I think its going to come down to which one of the play better and help there team win. Also I think it will be more defense like last week. Dayton has to capitalize on the plays they are given like Lloyd didnt Beechwood dont make to many mistakes so they half to make the plays when they get the chance. Both teams are well coached so should be a good game sorry but no prediction for me this week!!!

IMO from the two games that I seen, the qb position should be up for grabs. Ellis hasnt looked that strong in the two games. In the Holmes game Sherlock came off the bench and gave the Devils a much needed spark. I believe that Sherlock should have the starting position or at least a chance at the starting position.

did you watch last week... he also gave up a pick from about the 50 on what could have been one of Dayton's best scoring opportunities late in the game because he threw late over the middle, across his body rolling right... a basic no no of quarterback play (unless you have a rocket of an arm)... don't get me wrong Sherlock has the ability, just not some of the experience yet...

 

I think they will just continue to split the snaps like they have been...
