So when Eastern suddenly stops scheduling Frosh and JV games after years of doing so (and coincedentially so did every school in the footabll district) that's a scheduling philosophy not a boycott? Make no mistake it is an attempt on Eastern's part to "punish" Trinity for taking "their" students. I know everyone on the internet seems to have "inside sources" for information. Well I do as well on this issue.

 

The only thing I will give Sears in this whole mess was that he was open and truthful in using the word boycott. Some haven't been.

The powers that be in Jefferson County just don't have the intestinal fortitude to admit what they are doing. They hide behind the "scheduling philosophy" excuse.

Yeah, Trinity has it soooo tough ... and again, each school can do what they wish. Apparently some are playing Trinity anyway, so the "boycott" can't be all that effective.

It is a lot tougher when you can't count on JV or freshman games with the varsity teams on your schedule. You can believe what I say about a boycott or not. I know what I know.

The Diocese has designated feeder schools, but no one will ever be held to attending that high school. That is not the intention, and never will be based on an open letter from Dr. Bowman, the superintendnt, sent to all grade schools when the Proposal 2 issue was first raised. The Diocese IS one school system.

No..it is specifically oriented towards Trinity, in non-forced to play games, ie...Frosh Football, and JV.

Take your ball and go home already Willie. We've said all along this proposal would not bear up under legal scrutiny. It didn't, and you are still whining about "a level playing field". if you haven't noticed, life in the real world isn't always "fair".

 

You are demanding the legalization of "segregation" except this time it's not so much about the color of a kid's skin, as it is the kind of school/students (some you and your buddies can't manipulate and control,) that you want to discriminate against. Another phrase for "level playing field" is "legally assured mediocrity." If we can't win on our own merits, we'll just water down the competition to the point no one is truly excellent.

 

You might as well attempt to pass legislation mandating that all post season competion cease, and champions will be determined by a statewide lottery. No actual games. Just a big tumbling barrel with ping pong balls representing each school. That way, everyone has an equal and "fair" chance to win every year. Maybe we could get somebody in a big purple dinosaur suit to turn the crank and pull the names, just to make sure everyone "feels" good about it.

 

It's people and thinking like yours that turn kids into a bunch of spoiled little wussies. No wonder the Japanese kicked our backsides in the 70s and 80s. While they were pushing their kids to become the best they could be, and cranking out better cars and motorcycles and electronics than we were making, we were trying to figure out how to avoid hurting our kid's feelings with bad grades, only giving winning teams trophies, and trying to make sure that all workers received equal pay for the "kind" of job they had instead of the "quality and effort" of their work.

 

I must say---for 45 years, I have been extremely proud of our profession; I never imagined that I would witness such an arrogant display of disrespect for public educators. The state board and the KHSAA staff set helplessly by as this happened. Perhaps another story.

 

How about the arrogance of trying to cram a broken plan intended to oppress thousands of Kentucky student athletes down everyone's throats?

 

How about the arrogance of claiming the moral high ground in a debate intended to level the playing field?

 

How about the arrogance of refusing to get down off your high horse, after you've been told by unanimous assent that your little scheme is no good?

 

How about the arrogance of calling others arrogant just because they don't agree with you?

 

Maybe the arrogant display wasn't so much toward "public educators" as it was toward a really stupid idea that just happened to be forwarded by some public educators.

I think that ALL of you have BEATEN this HORSE to DEATH!!! - Relax, its just a game of football - not the war in Iraq.

While I am nowhere near an expert on this subject, I would think that if the proposal had any merit at all then the Legislative board would have voted 4-2 or 5-1. But a unaimous vote sends a pretty clear message. The opinion that was written basically told the KHSAA to shape up or the state legislature could dissolve it. (Am I correct about that?)

Also, this is sounding less like a person fighting for something he truly believes is the right thing, and more and more like someone who is used to getting his way, well...not getting his way.

No, prop 2 says you couldn't attend a school outside you SCHOOL System. Since all of the diocese is one system, any studentin the diocese could attent any high school in the diocese without penalty related to eligibility.
