What subtlety?? St. Joes Cold Spring has also sent kids to CovCath, Highlands, Brossart, Campbell, and others I'm sure, along with NCC; but is not a NCC feeder according to the diocese's guidelines?? I think this situation has been discussed and critiqued several times before here on BGP. If having once sent a student to a certain HS at some point in the past, is your criteria for being designated a feeder middle school, you've got a real mess on your hands??

 

Back to the point at hand, I believe the point of a private education, and what Mr. Sears and his cohorts are whining about; is the right to chose which school you wish to spend your tuition dollars with?? :confused:

However, I do notice that many threads mention reruiting from other counties, what about other STATES. I am confused on the reasoning to allow kids residing from out of state to play for a Kentucky State Championships. Anyone that is familiar with some of the private schools in Jefferson Co. know that they have players from Indiana on their squads. Does this tilt the playing field?

At the same time that Prop 20 pass, there was a proposal that passed banning out of state students. I believe the BOC tabled it to study the legality. I have not heard from that Prop since. Anyone know the status of it?

Are the kids from out of the state some type of superior athletes, that tips the balance to those schools in Ky on the State borders? While Highlands rarely gets kids from Ohio (most kids from Ohio strongly interested in playing football choose to play in Ohio for obvious reasons), it doesn't bother me if we have to play schools on the W. Va border with W. Va kids on the team. At the end of the day, they are just kids playing football; not some type of superior athletes.

This alone would make a big difference.

Second, on the bolded, I have not seen anything in any of the arguments that is taking away the right of parents to choose where they want to send their kids to school. The privates keep barking about it is the parent's right and they are absolutely correct in that. And not a single thing has been put forward that takes that right away. Parents can send their children to what ever school they wish.

The intent was to stop kids from other Counties/States from being able to attend the High School of their choice unless they went to one of the feeder schools in their eighth grade year. IMHO, that is not freedom of choice.

It's tough enough for them to make the transition when going to Hgh School from Jr. High. Now you're forcing them to live through it twice in back to back years.

 

And then how long is it until a new proposal 2 comes along that says it has to happen prior to their seventh grade year and then sixth and so on and so on? Before long you'll have to decide were you are going to send little Johnnie and Suzie to High School before they ever enter Kindergarden. I know that sounds crazy but it could happen.

And the difference is? If a kid is athletically ineligible to compete, what are they suppose to do when Mom and Dad choose for them to give them a chance at a better education, why penalize the kid. At that age they just want to play.

The ability to fully participate in athletics is part of school choice for many. In that reagrd it does indeed affect school choice so to say that it is not a schools choice issue in also less then accurate.

So if the public transit authority tells you that you are FREE to ride the bus, but that you must sit in the back, or the city has a concert and says that you are FREE to attend, but you have to stay in the restroom all because you live on a certain street....that works? That does not impede your freedom?

If the bolded part is the way the supporters of Proposal 2 feel, can we once and for all then stop the thus hypocritical statements that participation in athletics is a very important part of the educational process? Either its a very important part (and thus taking away a year of participation in games is a very big thing), or its not a very big thing and all the comments about athletics being important is just a bunch of trash.

 

Me, I believe that participation in athletics is very important in the educational process; not something we should take away willy nilly. The next time I hear someone tell me athletics is a privilege, not a right, I'm going to puke. If getting a public education is a right, and participation in athletics is a very important part of that education, then why isn't the ability to participate in athletics a right? Any one? Bueller? Bueller? Any one?

First, anyone in favor of a feeder system to solve anything in regards to private schools needs to get that idea out of their head for various reasons.

 

One would be that Catholic "feeder schools" are run by "feeder parishes" and there is absolutely no restriction on where your residence is actually located and what parish you can belong to. Heck, see my house and the next two houses on my street whereby kids go to three different Catholic grade schools.

 

Another would be that some private schools like Covington Latin, Villa, Cavalry Christian, and Heritage in NKY that do not have any feeder system. Should they just close, maybe quit offering athletic teams?
