August 17, 200719 yr Southern passion propels SEC to top of conference ladder We don't need Les Miles lipping off to know the truth: The Southeastern Conference is better than the Pacific-10 in football. This year and most years. The LSU coach appealed to his base in early July by taking shots at USC's league. This is what Miles reportedly said at a speaking engagement in New Orleans: "I would like nothing better than to play USC for the title. I can tell you this: They have a much easier road to travel. They're going to play real knock-down, drag-outs with UCLA and Washington, Cal-Berkeley, Stanford -- some real juggernauts -- and they're going to end up, it would be my guess, in some position so if they win a game or two, that they'll end up in the title [game]. "I would like that path for us. I think the SEC provides much stiffer competition."
August 17, 200719 yr I lived in Ohio just north of Columbus for 7 years. All I heard during that time was how superior the BIG 10 was to the SEC. Last January all my freinds in Ohio finally agreed with the retort I offered so many times during those years. If OSU and Michigan played in the SEC their big overhyped rivalry game would be for 3rd or 4th place in the conference.
August 17, 200719 yr And basketball The SEC won the NCAA in basketball the last two seasons, but the conference as a whole, is not the KING of college basketball.

August 17, 200719 yr Not year in and year out....but they wouldn't ALWAYS be 1 and 2... Ohio State and Michigan would be 1 and 2 once in a blue moon in the SEC...
August 17, 200719 yr I love it. Us, Southerners, will drink a gallon of sweet tea (or other unnamed beverage), eat a tub of grits, and whip the dog water out of any Yank or Left Coast Pinko they want to throw at us. Y'all done went and got me FARRED UP!
August 17, 200719 yr The SEC won the NCAA in basketball the last two seasons, but the conference as a whole, is not the KING of college basketball. Which just goes to show you can't always proclaim a conference king because it has the best team. It's funny that SEC fans make that argument in football, and then use the reverse in hoops. It is a bit different in football to the extent that regular season losses can keep you out of the title picture.
August 21, 200719 yr Ohio State and Michigan would be 1 and 2 once in a blue moon in the SEC... Try never.

August 21, 200719 yr The SEC won the NCAA in basketball the last two seasons, but the conference as a whole, is not the KING of college basketball. So when the SEC in basketball was having no teams make the final four, that was the excuse try to use to say the SEC wasn't the best conference. But now that we have had a team win back to back championships, and another team make the final four in the last 2 years, it still does not make it the best? I mean the SEC is doing now what people said it needed to do be the claimed as the best conference in basketball. People need to make up their mind instead of changing their argument in trying to say why the SEC is not the best... I not saying the SEC is way ahead, because its very close when it comes to basketball. However with what you all were using as standards before was postseason success and the last 2 years the SEC has done it...
