Those stats are true, but also the last two games of the year UK defense did play better. You never know what defense would show up for UK. Also I just really dont see atleast not yet for this year UC offense being able to light anyone up still...

 

I really think if they played we would see a game around a 20 to 17 score with either team winning because it could go either way...

So are you defending the UK D as anything but below average? You are much too smart for that one...

I think UL would win 9 or 10. I have no doubt UL could compete, but the adjustment of playing back to back to back tough opponents would be an adjustment for the Cards (or any other team for that fact). The only thing to measure that is with their two toughest opponents last season being WVU and Rutgers, and in consecutive weeks. They were not able to sustain the highest level of play. Although WVU would be an upper tier team in the SEC, Rutgers is more comparable to a South Carolina / Georgia type team.

I think there is validity to that arguement however I think the situation would be a little different if UofL was playing in the SEC.

 

Within the Big East the games Louisville played last season between WVU and Rutgers were bigger than what I believe they would find playing in the SEC. Before everyone jumps on this as SEC bashing, my point is based on what the games meant to the respective programs, and the history of the programs.

 

With WVU, they were ranked #3 in the nation and were coming in like a train that that had finished the season beating SEC champion Georgia, and doing it in dramatic fashion. With OSU and Mich playing in the end of the season it was very likely that the winner of this game would not only win the Big East but also go into the championship game. Add to the equation the triple overtime game last season and that the game was on a Thursday night (the most watched Thursday night game EVER). This game was the clearly the most important ever at UofL, and had to have been one of the most important for WVU also.

 

Rutgers started football, and did nothing else since. Now they were also undefeated and playing on a Thursday night. This was clearly the most important game ever for Rutgers. They jam packed the stadium lit up the Empire State building and gave NY/NJ a breath of college football that they had never before seen. The crowd was as intense as it has ever been anywhere in college football when Rutgers made it run.

 

Both games had jacked up atmospheres that led to the fans storming the field. Do you really think that any team Louisville might lose to in the SEC would storm the field if they won?

My point is that while, yes you are right, UofL failed when they had two major games in a row, they would probably not have two game at that "relative" magnitude ever again, partly because they just had those games and most team in the SEC have also had such experiences in the past.

^^Maybe there wouldn't be two games of that "magnitude" back to back, they would certainly play two better teams back to back in the same year. And after the top two teams, the SEC schedule vs. Big East isn't close.

I think both teams could go 9-3. With UK losing to Louisville, West Virgina and someone else. Louisville losing to LSU,Georiga,and Florida.

A. They were for the most part awful right up to the UT game. In fact it could be argued that games 10 and 11 were the worst.

 

B. Jumping out to a 3 TD lead is an excuse for giving up that many yards and almost blowing a game to a MAC team with a freshman QB playing his 4th game?

 

C. Over 1100 yards to Vandy and La Monroe doesn't count I guess.

 

D. What leads you to believe THIS year will be any different? Past performance is an indicator of future success more often than not.

I'm with you gt. I think UC would be a horrible matchup for UK. Bearcats have things to prove, but that defense was sufficating at the end of the year.
