Did the KHSAA finally get one right?

Featured Replies

It was well over 110 degrees inside my truck a couple days ago according to the onboard thermometer its not any cooler on a buss and some kids are on a bus over an hour.
On Monday, the bank sign said 102° in my area. A 109° was displayed, when I started my vehicle.

The forecast for next week, called for 90°'s across a large portion of Kentucky again.

Don't give them too much credit a stopped clock is right twice a day!
Only once a day.j/k

A stopped digital clock has no display yet a hands clock will be correct twice a day.

Is it the KHSAA getting things wrong or is it the majority of the member schools that are just looking out for #1?

Both are equally culpable ...
Oh stop, the six class move is a good one too.

I suspect this remark to be one of a sarcastic origin.

Actually it is not intended as sarcasm. I like six classes and think it was a good move for many reasons. I would however still like to see 6A and 1A be reduced to 16 teams each with the other four classes equally divided and hopefully that will happen in the future.

I don't see how 1A is going to shrink anytime soon, now that 1A looks more attractive to these smaller schools that weren't playing before that are playing this season. I think we'll see more of that as the years go on.

Why do you like the 6 class format? Don't you feel that with this few teams involved, it waters down the playoffs a bit?

My only comment would be that pushing it back one week doesn't really reduce the heat risk, and on the back end it makes practicing on Thanksgiving a little less special, since you're only a District champ and not a Region champ.

And yes, my glass is half empty.

Yes it does water down the playoffs a bit but it addresses the disparity in enrollment and that is a good thing. Again, I still want to see 16 team classes at the top and bottom and then I think it will be as good as it gets.

I'm trying to wrap my brain around what you are saying. Do you want eight classes? Or, do you want the other teams consolidated into the existing classes?

There are 41 class 1A teams, 32 class 2A teams, 39 class 3A teams, 35 class 4A teams, 37 class 5A teams, and 36 class 6A teams. That would leave 25 class 1A teams out of 1A and 20 class 6A teams out of 6A. That would make the middle classes heavy if you consolidated them to 2A, then some 2A teams to 3A and so on. If you add eight class that is a lot of classes. I'm not necessarily disagreeing, just trying to understand what you are saying that you want.

The main advantage of having six classes is it addresses the disparity in enrollment for many of the smallest schools in 1A and many of the smaller schools in the old 4A that are now 5A and those schools no longer have to compete with the really big 6A schools. Along that line of thinking I believe the six class format can be improved by making 1A the bottom 16 teams in enrollment, 6A the top 16 in enrollment, and 2A through 5A would have equal amounts of teams. I am just taking the idea a step further.

Furthermore I would eliminate one round of playoffs (with six classes we really need to look at it) and I would eliminate the bye week and I would play the finals on Thanksgiving again.

Also, no matter when the finals are played they need to be 2, 2, and 2 and not 3 and 3. Turkey weekend is an ideal fit for this one.

I definitely agree with the elimination of one round of playoffs and the bye week. I also could see what you are proposing with the six class alignment. That would leave roughly 47 teams in each class from 2A through 5A.

I am curious to know how many school districts across the state have already started school? Pike County began school on Thursday of this week, so needless to say, two-a-days are out of the question now (like it would have mattered anyway with this heat).
