August 2, 200719 yr I heard he was the starting QB for the Euro-league champions a couple of years ago and recently has been trying to get into the NFL. Lefors seems to be getting no respect in this thread. He lacked size but his heart, head, and ability were right up there with the best. None of the other Louisville QB's were as successfull at leading the offense as Lefors was his senoir year. I'd rank the Louisvlle QB's Lefors- He simply made the offense go, we did no wrong when he was under center. I think had he not had a concussion during the Miami game, Louisville would have won and would have played Pitt in the Fiesta Bowl instead of Utah. Brohm- Won a BCS bowl. He is the Golden boy, who I think will actually be a better pro than a college QB. Redman- Put up amazing numbers, my only complaint is that he had some choke points thoughout his career. Ragone- Was fun to watch, could have had a better senior season. Still a great QB to watch.
August 2, 200719 yr I really liked Couch, but all of his records can be a little misleading when alot of his completions were long handoffs. If Woodson can win a game or two that UK is not supposed to I would have to move him to the top of the list. I think Brohm has more quality wins than Redman so he leads my list for UL.

Ragone was drafted by the Texans, there for a season, sent to Europe, did VERY well in Berlin, back to the Texans, then released, and I can't remember where he went after that He's here in Louisville now, and does a radio show. LeFors was drafted by the Panthers, and there for 2 seasons before being released, and siging w/Edmonton.
August 2, 200719 yr U of L wise...I would say Redman and Brohm are close to a push, depending on what Brian does this season....then LeFors with Ragone bringing up the rump. Brohm needs to put up 30 TDs this year. He's had the benefit of a lot better talent than Redman.

It's really a tough comparison, b/c if you think about it, Couch got all his numbers in two years. He was under Curry as a freshman and left after his junior year. Brohm has been a 4 year guy.

Jared had a better college career, statistically, than Eli Manning and about 99.7% of the QB's to ever play in that conference. He is also entering his 3rd year getting an NFL pay-check. Shane Boyd won't sniff a roster in mid-September, IMHO. Bonner had a great year, and it may well have ended in a bowl victory had Whalen not snapped his arm / elbow, but IMHO he wasn't nearly as gifted as Jared at the QB spot (and certainly, for reasons outside of his control, didn't have a fraction of the career Jared had). At UK, as of today, I'd go like this: Couch Jared Woodson Bonner Boyd I'm sure Woodson will end up above Jared, but after one good year, IMHO, he isn't there yet.

August 2, 200719 yr I would say that I was mistaken in putting Boyd ahead of Lorenzen but I will stay with my opinion of Bonner being better than Lorenzen. Imo Bonner had his college carrer taken away from him by Hal "B"umme. Had Bonner been able to finish his college carrer it is hard to tell what kind of numbers he would have put up. I realize that Lorenzen has drawn a NFL paycheck for 3 years but I thought that we were talking about college. Lorenzen did have vey impressive numbers, Bonner went to Valdosta St. (I believe that it was) and set multiple records in that division I believe. This is jmo but I believe that it was all "political" at U.K. in pushing Bonner out in favor of Lorenzen. I am not trying to bash Lorenzen at all, I liked watching him but I just think that Bonner would had put up a far better carrer at U.K. had he not been screwed out of it. JMO I would give Lorenzen the definate edge in power eating contest though,

Lefors was probably the least physically gifted of the four, but he ran the U of L offense flawlessly and made a lot of things happen with his legs...I wouldn't rank him any lower than 2nd (behind Brohm). I was always a Ragone fan and I think he suffered his senior year because much of his supporting cast as a junior graduated. He was the left to carry the load and had some ups (see FSU) and downs. But, he was a very physically gifted guy, IMO. If I had to rank the U of L QB's, I'd probably go something like this... 1. Brian Brohm (I'm expecting he'll solidify this spot this season) 2. Stefan Lefors 3. Dave Ragone 4. Chris Redman As for UK... 1. Tim Couch 2. Andre Woodson (I expect he'll solidify this spot and possibly move to #1) 3. Dusty Bonner 4. Jared Lorenzen (physically gifted, but I was never impressed with the mental aspect of his game...he benefitted greatly from the system, IMO, and crumbled when it actually mattered, while racking up a lot of meaningless stats) 5. Shane Boyd (not sure if we should even bother ranking him) Overall, I'd give the U of L QB's the nod.

I'll second that. IMO, Couch was a product of his teams' system and couldn't throw the ball downfield consistently. I think Woodson, and it remains to be seen, will be regarded as a better quarterback when all is said and done.
