You can take pride in being ranked in the top 25, but it does not imply that you are a national power. First of all IMO, the term national power does not apply to a school based upon the success of one season or one BCS bowl. To me a national power is someone who is consistently a threat to win the national championship. UL has been impressive as of late, but I believe that that it is way premature to place them on the elite level just yet. Your stadium can't even accomidate a national power sized fan base just yet, and you are still scheduling games on thrusday and friday to get national television coverage. National powers haven't just recently had the notion that they need a staduim that seats over 45,000 and they get on television regardless of what other games they are up against. You seem to think that anyone who disagrees with you is not giving the UL program the respect that they deserve. I'll be the glad to acknowledge that UL has positioned themselves quite nicely over the past couple of seasons, but I think this arguement would best be revisited in about 5 years. In the past 3 years UL has only won one bowl game that wasn't against a program that is a "joke". And lets face it, while Wake Forrest deserved their BCS berth last season, that win simply due to who it was against will not open a lot of eyes on the national level. Wake might have been better than Boise or Oklahoma, however, I've got to believe that the public preception is that Boise will get a lot more credit for beating Oklahoma than UL will for beating Wake, if for no other reason than that Oklahoma is preceived as being a national power, even if they are in a bit of a down swing.

No, I think that the definition of success changes the more that Louisville accomplishes. This isn't a new arguement it is the same one on a constantly moving scale. I fully believe that Louisville could win the National championship and some here would say that it was a down year in college football, or you have to win multiple national championships to be considered a national power.

This is just your personal perception of things IMO. National power is just a broad term that it can be taken many different ways.

I don't hear UK telling the SEC that they won't play South Carolina on a Thursday night. And before you say it, no one wants to schedule UK on those nights, not vice versa. The bottom line is that ESPN wants those Louisville games. And RRR is correct, the success scale of most UK fans (can't say all because UK fans get miffed if they are generalized) is fluid. 4 years ago Louisville's success was to be taken with a grain of salt because they weren't in a BCS conference and the bowl games they were playing in were sub-standard. Now that Louisville has shown that it can still win in a BCS conference and even win a BCS game that's not good enough. Maybe Louisville can't compete for a national title, then again maybe they can. Either way they are a darn sight closer to it then UK. Couple that with the advantages that UK has has over the years (BCS money {not one penny earned by them but BCS money none the less}, a fan base willing to embrace mediocrity, better facilities {this advantage is gone} etc.) and I would have a very hard time as a UK fan running down anything Louisville has accomplished considering they have completely overtaken UK. No, no wait I know we were on probation.

Louisville's CONFERENCE may be scheduling those week night games but I would guess it would be bc they can't get any T.V. coverage on the Saturday games :sssh: . Since the current champ is decided by polls let's look at the total of their last 3 season's rankings according to the AP poll and see what who the current elite power programs are. We will also be able to determine if the people from across the consider the Cards a national power or if the posters on here are correct in saying it's all in our minds.
