July 23, 200719 yr I do not doubt the affability of the fine folks in the Mideast. Katie Couric doesn't need to report the good news as long as there are still whackos setting off bombs. It could be the most beautiful place in the world but as long as those whackos are still there the lack of good news on my nightly news has little relevance. Does it really make any difference, in the overall scheme of things? Seriously, there are wackos right in your own little part of the world. I look at it this way, Francisco Garcia's brother was shot right outside his door, in his apartment building in Central Harlem, but someone who's never been aprehended, as far as I know. Timothy Mc Veigh and friends parked vans full of explosives outside a federal building in downtown Oklahoma City in broad daylight and detonated it. Kids in this country have been shot for their tennis shoes. Crazy, irrational people are everywhere. I don't know anywhere in the world where you can avoid them.

Central Harlem. This one wasn't even close for me. Be an unknown minor league baseball player or a famous professional badminton star? Minor League Baseball Player. Marry Becky from "Full House" or the mom (Carol) from "Step by Step"? I've never seen either show, so I guess I'll go with Becky. Be deaf and incredibly good-looking, or blind and the world's greatest musician? Deaf; being blind would rob you of so many great things to see. I don't care about the 2nd half of either one, but I'd rather be able to see than hear if I had to lose one. This one was very difficult. Have an limitless supply of money but it'd have to all be in change or get 100,000 dollars every year for life? The change. Live in the magical world of Harry Potter or the fantasy world of Lord of the Rings? Never seen either, so I'll go with Magic over hobbits.

I just looked up some crime data. The whole country of Saudi Arabia averages around 50 murders a year. There were 20+ in just TWO precincts in Harlem last year. So you're telling me you'd rather walk down a Harlem street at 1am with your lady than a street in Dubai (where you'll NEVER hear of a terrorist bombing)?

July 23, 200719 yr Correct. Its all a matter of probability. When's the last time you heard of a mass murder in Harlem? I guess it's all relative. Do I want to risk being the victim of random violence, where I'm not singled out for any reason, I just happen to be in the wrong place at the wrong time? Or, do I want to risk being the victim of someone who targets me because I am wearing something they want, or don't have enough money to satisfy them when the try to rob me? I think I like the relativity of just being in the wrong place at the wrong time. At least it isn't so "personal".
