Wisconsin beat SEC runner-up Arkansas in the capital one bowl. Yep, it was a down year in the Big Ten. :rolleyes: Way down. What would be an up year then? Interested in hearing this one. OSU got embarresed by Florida. Michigan got embarresed by USC. Wisconsin was good and then there was the rest! Please give me an argument explaining how good the rest of the Big 10 was. I think the top 3 were solid but the dropoff from there from 4 down was awful this past year.

I don't know that I would say awful, just not powerful. Penn State beat Tennessee 20-10 in the Outback Bowl. Minnesota lost in OT to Texas Tech. Iowa lost by 2 to Texas. Purdue got thumped by Maryland. That makes 7 bowl teams that went 2-5 (all of the losing teams lost to some pretty good competition). Not awful, just not powerful. By the way. The two wins did come against SEC teams.

I do strongly believe had they played later in the year it would have been a totally different game IMO I think you could make the same argument for Cal vs. Tennessee, so I'd consider that a wash. In fact, if anything, I'd give the Pac-10 the advantage there...if the games were played later in the season, I think Cal would have stood a far better chance of beating Tennessee than Arkansas would have had against USC. I don't think USC would have beaten them by 36 or whatever it was, but they would have still won the game. I think Cal would have won against Tennessee later in the year.

August 9, 200719 yr Maybe, just maybe the SEC offenses fare poorly against each other due to familiarity and the fact that the conference games are generally bigger games for them than the Tulane's and Hawaii's of the college football world. Out of conference teams see an opportunity to make a name for themselves while the SEC teams are looking at these games as a tune up for conference play. Add in the fact that more conference games receive national coverage and are rivalry games and you get emotions running high which, IMO, is good for defense and bad for offense. Face it, U of L is a very good team, but if they played in the SEC, they would be a second tier program. Makes sense to me>:thumb:
