Johnson Central High School's New Field pictures

Featured Replies

As nice as the football field is/will be, construction/demolition of a brand new adjacent baseball and softball facility has also begun. Johnson Central has been known for it's outstanding baseball facilities for over 30 years, but renovation became evident. The new baseball and softball fields will be just as impressive as what the football facilities will be.

There will also be 4 brand new tennis courts added, and as you can see, a brand new 8 lane track as well as other track and field accomodations.

Phase III of the athletic project will also include a multi-sport indoor training complex.

I also need to include the three brand new youth baseball/softball fields that were built last year that became home to 700 kids to play summer baseball and softball.

When it's all said and done, Johnson Central will have one of the finest athletic complexes in all of Kentucky.

Will baseball still be natural grass? Hopefully no turf on the diamond!

Yes, it will still be grass, and I agree with you 100%.:thumb:

I dont know where the money came from. Sorry I cant answer your question.

Sell a lot of brats???

Sell a lot of brats???

Don't think you will have to sell a single brat! My understanding is KERA is playing a major role in the funding of this sports complex. Maybe not entirely, but perhaps in the 75 - 80% range.

Look- the field looks great. It's state of the art in my opinion. Our Kentucky neighbors deserve a quality sporting complex. However, and I realize I may be lighting the powder keg and that is not my intentions here, but I just do not think that building a college quality sports complex with KERA funding is what the politicians had in mind when KERA was formulated years ago. IMO, KERA was intended to bring up the quality of instructional education in Kentucky to the level of the more affluent communities. And by the way, I am all for that concept. I just have to question the funding of sports complexes for high school, middle school and now junior league football with tax money from other communities that are truely struggling to house students in decent school structures.

Just one man's my opinion. Congrats to the kids and coaches of Johnson Central. A state of the art complex that will be enjoyed for many years to come...:thumb:

First, let me say that I have no idea if KERA money played any role in the funding of the new complex. However, if KERA money was used, I would commend the administration for being fiscally responsible enough that the money was available for that use. Johnson County is one of the TOP 10 districts academically in the state and is home to the Number One Elementary School in the State, according to the standards set forth by the Kentucky General Assembly. The district has been given numerous awards to many different schools for outstanding academic achievements. Other school districts travel from the opposite end of the Commonwealth to see what Central Elementary is doing so they can take that information back to their schools and impliment some of the techniques used by the outstanding staff at Central Elementary. The High School and Middle School Academic teams are mainstays in the Governor's Cup Competition with the Middle School being the only Middle School in the state with five State Titles. Therefore, I would say that Johnson County has earned the right, through good decision making and fiscal responsibility to use the money as they see fit. The complex is not only a testament to the administrations ability to run a quality school district but also the teachers who ensure that the children of Johnson County receive one of the best public educations in the state. As for the students, the complex could be seen as a reward for their hard work and something of which they can be extremely proud.

I sincerely applaud the efforts of Johnson County, especially Johnson Central and Central Johnson Elementary, for all of their academic achievements. I, like many in Johnson County, am very fortunate to have such a fine school district in the town where I live. A strong school district mirrors the people that the live in the city, the administrators, teachers and most importantly the students. I believe if it were not for our academically strong school district - the quality of living in my little hamlet would deterioate to that of some lesser cities in the surrounding area.

I am aware of your opinion that Johnson County deserves the state of the art sports complex due to the educational achievements of its student body and the hard work by the fine folk who reside in Johnson County. I just feel that KERA money, money that is coming from outside of Johnson County should not be used to build fields for junior league football, highschool football, soccer, baseball and track. Not to mention the building of stands around these fields. After the sports complex is complete and paid for, what is next on the checklist with KERA money?

As you get the opportunity to travel to other schools, especially city school districts, take a look at the structure of the school buildings and grounds. The grade school and high school my sons and daughter attend are the same buildings that my wife and I attended and the same buildings that my parents attended. Unfortunately, the buildings look their age. Structures that are without air conditioning in the elementary schools and a high school that is just getting air conditioning installed this Summer. So, that's my issue. It's certainly nothing against my fellow Kentuckians in Johnson County. It's with the politicians in Frankfort.

Good luck in football ! You had a great year to be proud of last year. I hope you continue your winning ways in the '07 campaign! :thumb:

Woodford County wanted a field like that but the school board and the county would not go for it. So the school has to pay the parks and rec. department $610 a game to use the field that is Varsity, JV, and Freshman and we have to mow it they take care of lights, locker rooms, press box, and any other up keep.

Do you play on Field Turf w/ new lighting systems and new stands? Synthetic soccer fields and basball diamonds?

Silver Streaker, Johnson Co has a considerable tax base and only one high school. They are not robbing you of any ammenities by building a new sports complex. And if you are barking about inequities in school funding, I invite you to take a look at coal severance taxes and the statewide exodus of them out of the EKY and WKY communities where they are generated. It far outweighs the perception that the NKY and other affluent communities are subsidising school funding for the state's less fortunate districts (of which Johnson County is not), at least in coal producing communities.

If the facts are correct regarding the KERA funding then they are most certainly robbing all other districts in the state. There are too many other schools not getting the funding they need for their crumbling infrastructures. Sports complexes should never be funded with these dollars. If they have no use for the dollars for educational purposes they should be returned to the state.
