I fail to understand you argument. Johnson County schools are being reward for being one of the top 10 districts arcoss the state and for their hard work you believe we should give to others out of our hard work and rewards. I believe that is the problem with this state and country as a whole. We are always wanting hand outs instead of getting out there and working for our reward. I understand that you local schools may not have the best buildings for educational purposes but it is your duty and the duty of your fellow citizens to vote in Board members who will look out for the good of your school and not themselves. Johnson County has been very fortunate to have such respectful and caring Board members that have the children of Johnson County in their minds with every decision. As I said, I know nothing about the school system that you are talking about, but if the Board that has taken Johnson County from one of the worst districts to being one of the top 10 district statewide, then I as well as you should trust their judgement in how the chose to use their fundings provided by the hard work of everyone in Johnson County.

 

It's not my intent to change anyone's opinion about funding for their respective highschool. Frankly, school board members have nothing to do with the state school funding formula. That my friend, is the sole responsibility of the fine folks we elect to represent our interests in Frankfort.

 

IMO, KERA and SEEK have outlived their intended purpose. I feel that the county schools have caught up and surpassed many of the school buildings in the afluent communities in Kentucky. It's just time to keep the taxes where they are generated and a chance for the less fortunate funded schools to be able to improve their infrastructure.

 

I never said anything about returning funding, except the funny about sending me a check. JC is very fortunate to have the school board that is now in place. However, JC does not necessarily represent the entire state. I am confident that there is some abuse of the state funding monies to these schools that have made the necessary improvements to the infrastructure and now are looking for creative ways to keep the "jack" flowing in.

when i was listening to the JC-CovCath game it sounded like the fans were sitting right next to guys from Cov-Cath radio:D A couple of times i could make out that there was a great sale going on at the local Wal-Mart.:thumb:

For one thing, nobody even knows for sure if the first cent even came from KERA or SEEK monies in the first place or not. Perhaps JC is just the benefactor of a huge private endowment or corporate sponsonship, who knows (I guarantee that you dont), but here you are a couple of hundred miles away from Johnson County and admittingly claiming to not knowing the first thing about Johnson Central or any of the JCBOE, and you have the gall to say that there is more than likely financial abuse in the way in which Johnson Central is funding their sports complexes. How did Dunbar acquire the facilities that they have? How did Letcher Central? How did Belfry? How did Bryan Station? Those are all ultra modern, state of the art sports complexes too. I guess all of these school systems are all just full of crooks as you seem to want to imply.

 

I am particularly amused by your lame comment about keeping tax monies in the geographic locations in which they are generated. My, but you certainly put a lot of thought into that statement.:sleep: I sure would like to have all that coal severence money that was generated HERE in eastern Kentucky sent back to us here in eastern Kentucky that was sent to your neck of the woods to build YOUR 4 lane highways. All of our school districts here in eastern Kentucky could all probably build Super Domes and each county could possibly have all of their rural county gravel roads blacktopped, if we didn't have to finance the infrastructures that you are recieving the benefit of, courtesy of eastern Kentucky coal resources. Would you care to take the responsibility upon your shoulders to see that someone could send that huge check back to us since it worries you so much that each should keep that which is so rightfully theirs?...... Instead of taking pot shots at progressive and enterprising school systems that have a little vision, why dont you spend your time trying to light a fire under your own school district officials to see if they might try to improve some of your own facilities that you are claiming to be so lacking. To me, the time spent doing that would be more personally beneficial and self serving.

What about the press box. Never been to JC but when i was listening to the JC-CovCath game it sounded like the fans were sitting right next to guys from Cov-Cath radio:D A couple of times i could make out that there was a great sale going on at the local Wal-Mart.:thumb:

The CovCath radio annoucers were postioned in the extreme left hand end of the press box right beside the door where you enter the pressbox. Perhaps the door was open, as you can see the close proximity to the fans that could make the fan noise level very high. And by the way Wal-Mart is about 3/4 of a mile away from the field.

I asked early on in this thread how was the complex funded - no one seemed to know. Apparently you are in the dark as well and I take it you live in Johnson County. My first assumption was that there was an endowment or money from boosters and other groups. That's how we funded our Field Turf. The parents painted the stadium and a local paint supply store donated the paint. Several times during the season, dads paint the hashmarks on the field because we did not have enough money to have them installed.

 

IMO there are folks on BGP that would like to know how these complexes are funded so that they may be able to pursue the same avenues in securing funding for a similar complex.

First of all, the major part of the original structure burned down in a major fire in th late 60's. Secondly, if there is no money to spend on improving the infrastructure raising a little heck is pointless. In fact I think our school district and its community has great vision and leadership as they are able to accomplish many things for its students without the type of funding you are receiving. JC's facilities will be no better than what they hace aquired. Interesting to see if you will get on a bandwagon crusading for an investigation on their behafs as well.

Haven't seen their complex yet... when I or if I get the opportunity... I may light another fuse. Regarding the funding... I have said all along its not your fault, I am sure we would do the same thing IF we had the funding. My gripe is with the inequitable funding formula.

 

I hope you guys have a great season. Nothing at all against Johnson County and I am especially pulling for the boys! Too bad we are in different class brackets... I would enjoy the visit to JC during the playoffs!
