Scott County getting transfer point guard

Featured Replies

I hope for him and his family the best of luck in their new home. I hope the move works out for him, his family and Scott County. That would be the best scenario in my feeble mind.

Your right Fan, if the KHSAA feels as if he is tranfering for athletic reasons only then he will be ruled ineligible. Im not saying thats what the kid is doing or what the KHSAA is going to rule, just saying that they make the call and I know I have seen people in this type of situation be suprised by the ruling of the Athletic Association.

If there is a legitimate change of residence, he will be eligible, end of story.

It's not SCHS' fault they have the most desirable employer in the state, and one of the most desirable employers in the world, in their backyard. This is a fact that many people conveniently overlook.

Billy Hicks is going to need to perform some magic if this kid is going to be a point guard. He has never seen a shot he didn't like, and that was as a freshman.

From a basketball future standpoint, he has made to right move by going to Scott County. Also, he is correctly being told that his future at the next level would be at the point, but I do not think he will ever develop a point guard mentality. He has a scorers mentality and that will not bode well for a point guard on a team with as many good players as Scott County.

Bud played the point most of the time for SC last year. I believe that will be the case most of the time for next year as well. This kid will probably be at the 2 most of the time, but may defend the other point. It's not like Jordan Adams or Cam Hundley are going to lay down and let him knock them out of the lineup anyway. The kid will have to play some ball to get to start. I would think Phares and Lee will have the 4 and 5 locked up, with Bud at one perimeter spot, then one of the three with this new kid, Adams, and Hundley.

The Portwood and Givens kid have a good chance to make a spot. SC goes very deep on the bench better than last year.

Almost forgot about Portwood. He did well when he came off the bench last year. Could be a good role for him again. If he comes ready to play, he definitely has the ability to start. Probably puts him ahead of Cam and Adams.

To G-lawn's credit, he is certainly not shying away from competition in his move to Scott County. They are loaded.

Phares and Lee at the 4 and 5 positions. Mackey at one of the guard positions. Cam Hundley, who I thought might have been Scott County's MVP in the state tournament will get the majority of the minutes at one of the starting positions. That leaves Portwood, Givens, Adams, and now, Guyn to fight it out for playing time at the fifth spot. They will still play with only one basketball, right?

Looks like if Billy Hicks can chemically balance this equation, he might win another Sweet Sixteen Championship!

If there is a legitimate change of residence, he will be eligible, end of story.

Thank you. :thumb:

I basically said the same thing in my post(#11)

The fact of the matter is no one will ever know why the kid transfered, we can make assumptions, but we all know what happens when we do that. Truth be told, if his family has moved into Scott Co. and lives there full time then he will be eligible to play ball for the Cardinals...period.

^ Do you really believe that?

I don't and won't, EVER. A certain player at "tha D" did that a few years ago. Must be the flea markets or something. Def. not academics.

I would buy if Toyota was selling. They make great cars! Maybe some good football and baseball players will move other places for academic reasons! Anything is poss. in A "County".

What is "tha D"?

If there is a legitimate change of residence, he will be eligible, end of story.

The problem with this quote is that what a common person may consider "legitimate" may not be the same definition the KHSAA Board of Control uses...

Scott County does seem like a great place to live. Things do just seem fishy with the players who transfer in.

If you build it they will come.

I don't either and it's a shame a kid has to lie and say that he/she is transferring for academic reasons at all. If the family moves - who cares what the reason is - no one should (but I guess a lot of folks do).
