August 30, 200719 yr After the two "biggest games of the season" the Reds are only .5 worse than they were Monday with 18 games left against the three teams "leading" the pack... They have 3 games this weekend against the Cardinals. Who starts the first 2? Also, the last 3 games of the year are against the 1st place Cubs. They really need to be within one game so they don't have to have a sweep. They're not in a position to sit guys in case they get tired two weeks from now. Griffey I can see. If you're fine w/ resting Dunn the day after an off day in favor of Ellison that's fine. I'm not.
August 30, 200719 yr For those of you who have a problem with Dunn sitting. 10 games in 9 days. Would Dunn deserve a day off somewhere in that? Would you prefer him sit against the Pirates, the Cardinals or the Mets? Also, you need to give some spot starts to the other OFers to keep them somewhat fresh. Would you prefer that spot start against the Pirates, the Cardinals or the Mets?

If Dunn had to sit, which he didn't b/c he's young and they had an off day before. Did Ellison have to play or could it have been Hamilton who didn't start either game? You don't need to keep your 5th outfielder fresh. If 2 of your 3 go down w/ injury you worry about spring training. When you're 6 1/2 games out and there are 3 teams in front of you you don't sit Dunn. It's really simple. Another point to go against this goofy argument. Why not let him play when EZ is pitching b/c you'll need more runs you would think than you would when either Arroyo or Harang pitch? Is Dunn really not in shape enough to play an extra 9 innings when you're fighting for your life?

If they were 3 games back and playing against St. Louis this weekend and he sat these guys you'd complain that it's too big of a series to sit them. It's a perfectly valid argument, you just choose to ignore it. Mackanin has the Reds back in 'the hunt'. Granted, this is the worst division in baseball but he's taken this team a lot further than most expected in the second half of the season and people are STILL questioning him...unbelievable... Again, Hamilton not playing at all, besides PH'ing, is the only valid argument...

August 30, 200719 yr You also predicted that Griffey would lead the Reds in Home Runs...how is that looking? I'll take second.:thumb:

August 30, 200719 yr Don't worry, you weren't alone. http://www.bluegrasspreps.com/showthread.php?t=124101 I really don't mind being wrong to Adam Dunn, I've made it very clear, I'm a big fan of the Dunner.

If he really needs to sit the day after an off day he needs to be in better shape, he never gets hurt so whatever he's doing is working. They aren't in a position to worry about a series later in the week or later in the season. They had to at worst have 1 of 2. Again, if he sits last night when Harang is pitching, but Ellison never started I would be more ok w/ it.

Yes, moreso than when your 3, 4 or 5 is on the mound...
August 30, 200719 yr Wonder why I didn't vote in that thread... I have to ask the same question.
