Track the Reds: 2nd Half

Featured Replies

If he goes to 2nd and gets thrown out before Gonzo scores for the 3rd out (wasn't it), would you have been happy?

Initially, I thought the same. However, I went on the Reds website and watched the play. It's really inexcusable. Any player that could've cut the ball off and thrown him out at second was on the ground in left field. No way does he get thrown out and IF he does, it's definitely after the run scores...

Exactly. Plus if they try to throw him out he gets in a pickle and the go ahead run scores. He absolutely has no excuse for standing on 1st.

The part I bolded is also probably the same reason why he was not on second...

I like Griffey, but I'm tired of watching him stare at balls hitting the fence.

Big win for the Reds. Phillips is an absolute stud right now. It will take a small miracle now to come back, but there lineup is shaping up to be pretty good next year. The bullpen actually looks like it has a chance to be good as well. They probably won't be able to get a lot of help in the rotation so they better hope Belisle can become consistent and Bailey comes back around between now and April.

You know that was no where near the fence right?

How bout giving him just a bit of praise for coming through in the clutch and driving in a huge run?

Would somebody let Griffey know he's not 20 any more and the ball isn't flying out like it used to.

He really has been driving me nuts lately on the bases. How is he not on 2nd on his blooper in the 9th? Gonzo goes 1st to home and the throw goes home and Griffey is standing on 1st. BP ropes a double and Griffey gets stranded on 3rd. He's driving me crazy.

I was thinking the same thing, he should have easily been on second base.

No kidding, way to swell up on one, Griff...:D

Some people can not be pleased.

He wouldn't have received this much grief if he would have K'ed.

I was joking Sally (Hence the smiley). I'm a Griffey fan. I don't have that much of a problem with him not going to second last night because the go-ahead run had to score. I'm not a fan of him watching balls hit off the fence but, I think he gets too bad of a wrap in this town, though...

I wasn't talking about you. Tina. :p

Did you miss the one earlier in the game that was 3 inches from being out of the park? I'm guessing you did. He stared at it like it was gone. It wasn't.

He gets paid to drive in runs. He could hustle to go along w/ swinging the bat.

^ ^ He made a bad play but I can hardly complain about Griffey this year. You're really splitting hairs here.

Again, I like Griffey, and he is having a good year. He gets paid to do what he's doing he could at least hustle a little. I don't care if he doesn't run out a 2 hopper to 2nd. But when a guy watches ball after ball hit the fence it's frustrating. Gonzo goes 1st to home on Griffey's blooper, the play is in front of him, and he's standing on 1st. The next guy gets a double and he can't score the insurance run. They ended up not needing it, but if they blow that game the season is officially over. It's a long long shot now as it is. I wouldn't mind seeing a little more effort.

If him not hustling every play gets us to keep Griffey healthy for the whole season, its fine with me. Because we are alot better off having him in the lineup even if he doesn't hustle some plays, than having him not in the lineup being injured...

He could hustle a lot more, but maybe this is keeping him healthy.
