Pre-season 10th Region Baseball

Ullery never coached a team that was 2-20. His first two years at Mason County resulted in back to back district championships. Mason had not won a district title since 1993 at that point. Get your facts straight.

Right, that's what I was thinking too. I had a good friend that played for them when he started coaching, and they were pretty successful. Almost knocked off Brossart in the opening of regional tournament one year too. They definately weren't 2-20!

By the way the only JV player to see the field in the varsity game that night was a pinch runner who was picked off first base!!!!!!!!!!!

Who won that varsity game? Also, jv games have little effect in terms of determining what will happen at the varsity level. Regarding the region, it is harrison county's to lose and they won't.

King needs to gain some velocity on his fastball and work on his curve, if he want to see many innings as a varsity pitcher. But, he will work hard and gain strength... He's still young.

Agree, but he played last year as a freshman and helped win some big games for mason. As for 2-20 I disagree Mason plays A-town 3 times and im pretty positive they are on a 57 game losing streak no harm to coach kelsch, im just saying.

I'm speaking of Coach Murphy... Don't tell me to get the facts straight, you may want to tell the coach this as he is the one that said it. Read people!

Ok, whether or not it was Ullery's team Murphy's team or any coach before that. At some point Mason Co. had a record of 2-20 or was close to that. But, I was just wondering what your alls take on it for a coach saying that his team is like the one of the past that had a record of 2-20?

Whether it's right or wrong, I don't think that a coach should say that to his kids. This makes them feel like the coach doesn't have faith in them winning games this year, since he came out and said he didn't expect them to win much more than 2 games. If I were a player;however, this would motivate me, because I would definately want to prove my coach wrong and win a lot of games. It can be looked at 2 different ways by players. As a motivating factor to prove him wrong, or they can see it as their coach doesn't have high expectations of them, so it makes them feel bad and defeated.

A coach shouldn't say this though, IMO.

I agree. It would motivate me personally to play and work harder to prove him wrong, but all players don't have that mentality. I don't think he should have said it either because there are many more ways a coach can motivate his kids than say he doesn't have confidence in them to win much more than 2 games. I look for Mason Co. to have a season like they always do. Nothing special but always have an opportunity to knock off a good team.

2-22 came in 1999, Coach Bob Iery. I can read, but your sentence structure wasn't very clarifying. Glad I could be of assistance though!

Just repeating what someone told me who is on the team. Glad we cleared it up. Either way Irey or Ullery... Not the point of the conversation...

Harrison will most likely be the team to beat in the upcoming season. Returning all players but 2 will be a big plus for the Thorobreds. Wouldn't you agree?

I Think everyone agree with that statement.

Yes most certainly but who predicted Clark to win the region last year?? I know I didn't hear many people saying that.:thumb:

Gives me an idea, for a new thread....:thumb:

Pre Season outlooks are going to be tough this year in the 10th but I still beleive it goes through Harrison Co. this year. If I were to rank this is what it would look like.

1) Harrison Co. just like UK in Bball I dont care what they have it will always have to go through them. Got great fielding, hitting and good pictching coming back

2) Campbell Co. -Are going to have some good pitching with a lot of depth. You will see one of the fastest outfields in years in the 10th region with this team. Only thing going to hold them back is going to be whether or not players are played in the correct postions and if they tire out in the end like they have done the past 2 years. There needs to be something done different to keep the players wanting more at the end of the season and even though they have plenty of seniors they lack seniors with a drive.

3) Clark Co. - Will have some solid players back this year. And like all other years they will be able to stroke the ball. What is holding them back will be depth in pitching which we all know you need in tournaments and another thing is the fact that the region will not be played at a small ball park something that favors them heavily whenever it is played at their place. But you always know they are a very well coached team and that goes a long way in HS ball. I think they will have a good run but might come up short, depeding on who they draw.

4) Scott - Going to return 2 good pitchers and still have to see what the hiller kid can do. I just dont know if he will be much of a factor. Problem for this team this year will be lack of depth 1-9 not in the pitching rotation but yet in the field. Pitching helps win games but at the same time you must have a good defense which I dont know how good that will be, I think it will depend on the night. And as far as offense goes I just dont think they will be that powerful on offense as well but again this is a team that could get hot late and if the defense is there and they get a little run support they will be tough.

5) Montgomery - I think that they won't have anything over powering but will be a solid team that if you don't show up to play you will be beat and somtimes badly. I just don't think they have all the tools this year to win a region but will be able to compete and stay towards the top.

Left Out

Brossart - not that deep and not that much talent, its going to be a long year I beleive for the stangs. You will hear about their success over the small single A schools, which their fans will try and say that's why they are going to be great, but when it comes to playing the bigger schools with talent they just will not have a enough.

Mason Co. - Have been playing better but still lacking a go to player and really a deep team 1-9 to bring it every day. They are getting there and getting better year after year, but I still think they will fall short.

Bourbon Co. - great coach, just after last years very un-expected down fall, there is something thats telling me something is going on down there that is not good. Hopefully they get it corrected because a 10th region without a contender in Bourbon Co. isn't a 10th region at all. We need somone to atleast give Harrison Co. a run down in that area.

St. Pats - not much to say, just dont have a chance to compete for a 10th region title

Pendleton Co.- will be in the 10th region tourney by default because heck its either them or bracken co. and I will take Pendleton over Bracken most of the time, especially this year. It will be a quick regional tourney for them, probably 5 innings.
