Pre-season 10th Region Baseball

The field at Montgomery needs to be rolled, a lot of times you don't know where the ball will bounce. The lights are too low and if I remember correctly, they don't have bathrooms. They are no where near Harrison or Campbell with facilities.

No wonder Harrison been so good through the years, there's no bad hops on their field and they know where the ball is going to bounce. All this time I thought it was their talent and Coach Mac….:lol:

I agree on the field needing rolled, new infields will have some settling issues, but I would venture to say all infields need rolled at the beginning of every high school season due to ground freezing and thawing. Nice, if you have that luxury.

Lights too low? Wasn’t aware of KHSAA regulation on the height of light poles. They looked to be standard lights to me.

As far as restrooms go, couldn’t agree more. Word is, construction is to begin on new concession stand and restrooms at the end of 2008 high school season.

Agree. I never understood why Montgomery put bermuda in the infield. Seems a bit different and had to be expensive. No real bathrooms hurts Montgomery as well.

Not sure what you mean by different? UK, UT, Morehead and the list goes on and on, all have Bermuda over seeded with rye as their playing surfaces. As far as expenses go, I’m sure it was a little more expensive than bluegrass or fescue sod, but I'd say that's a drop in the bucket compared to the cost of their new gym.

Here’s another way to spin it; would you rather hit your golf ball from a Bermuda fairway or 2 1\2 inch tall bluegrass\fescue rough? Me, I'd choose the fairway, but with my swing it more from the rough.....

The field is very nice. I think this year (year 2) will make all the difference. It is very nice and the coaches and parents work very hard on the field.

In basketball you dust the floor(after you establish the facilities)....in football and baseball... the field work is endless and necessary.

I don't think you intended to bash the new basketball facility, its great as well. Hopefully, the baseball teams get some nice bathrooms soon.

Wasn't intending that at all. Point I was trying to make was they went 1st class with their surface on their baseball field as well. Sorry if it came across that way.

Montgomery's overall campus is 1st class.... :thumb:

If Montgomery does what it needs at the baseball field and were to combine the football and soccer field on the current football field with the new fieldturf product and moved the track around the current soccer field and kept the current soccer field for soccer practice...I can't think of another need.

I do think baseball and softball needs more batting cage areas.

I hope we are getting it done in the classroom.

Heard there was a few new faces today at GRC's tryouts...

There isn't a regulation but the lower the lights, the better chance you have of a ball going above the lights and players losing sight of it. It happens more than you think.

It's pretty safe to say Brossart doesn't play any body worth bragging about. Yes they dont have that much talent this year. They had a good group of kids graduate last year, but so did Campbell and you don't see me using that card with them. Varsity experience means little if anything at the HS level, either you got guys that can play or can't. The ball parks they play in are the same, the innings are the same the players they play against pretty much are the same, they have played against them before. If you want to say look at their basketball this year lets do that, they are 13-11 of those 13 W's they have beat Silver Grove (1-20) Lloyd (9-15) Pendleton twice (4-18) Calvary twice (11-10) Augusta (12-11) Dayton (7-14) Bracken (4-20) Paris (3-15) St.Pat (18-7) LCA didnt know they played basketball (9-13) Harrison Co. (9-12) that means those wins came from teams with a combined record of 87-155 roughly 36% winning percentage, something to be proud of. Most of those schools have 5th graders playing on them. Now look at the games they lost St. Henry wasnt close (13-10) Campbell wasnt close (14-8) Highlands wasnt close (15-7) St. Pats twice losing to them (18-7) Deming (11-9) Mason Co. wasnt close (23-3), Scott (7-17), Holy Cross wasnt really close (8-11), University Heights wasnt close (22-4) and NCC wasnt really that close (14-8), so teams that beat that great tradition power house school that brossart is have a record of 145-91 or 61% winning percentage. So thats my reasoning for saying that yes brossart will beat the small non talented teams but dont have the talent to play with the bigger more talented schools. There is no TRADITION brossart, realize they had some good classes come through, and its time they start realizing that and realizing how lucky they were to have those classes come through and enjoy it while it lasted because now there is no talent like they had. Brossart will continue winning with the small schools but not at the big scale whats happening with basketball will be a repeat with baseball, brossart will not get out of the district this year, they will be 3rd in the district behind Scott and Campbell.

Let's look at some facts Sit em down... Last year Brossart played around 10 top 25 teams in the state of KY and scheduled a few more that got rained out including PRP, GRC, JC, St. X, Cov Cath, Holy Cross, HC, Johnson Central, and some others I forget.... Also played Elder and St. X from Cincinnati.... Not a tough schedule, give me a break...

Campbell's been Brossart's little brother in sports for the past 8 years, while they have been more successful in baseball than other sports, so I'd say its been a bit more than a couple decent classes...

And please, an A school is going to have some down years, but trust me, they'll be back...

Striker if you noticed that was from the post of somone talking about how good their basketball team is doing this year not baseball last year, read the post first then comment later thats one of the best ways to go about these discussion boards. And yes it doesn't make much sense to talk about basketball in a baseball discussion but I was not one of the ones that started it, I just commented on it.

Weren't you the one that went on to put just about evry single stat possible about the basketball team. All I said was evryone siad their basketball team wuld not be any good and they ended up beating some good teams. I believe you posted a whole stat book about the basketball team.

CEO pointed out a comparison how the basketball team exceeded expectations, and he expects the baseball team to do the same...

He was only replying to your analogy though...

Let's get back to the thread topic and use the PM's, for other discussion.

What expectations were there when playing against that type of competition? I mean honestly if Brossartwere to only expect to go .500 against those teams then I would call the under-acheiving for them. But like strike 3 said lets get back to the thread topic.

Alright. So basically every team has had one full weekend to have tryouts and see what they've got..Any surprises out there for your team?
