What about Nicholas Co. this yr. They return a team that has alot of experience. They just graduated 4 from last yr. but will be able to replace them with better kids. Coach Sims does a wonderful job.

Where's all the 10th region fanatics?:jump:

Brace doesnt have a homerun swing..... But he is a base hitter.. I'm pretty sure he is coming back for his senior year. Now you want big bat. The Cox kid has probaly hit some of the longest home runs I've seen in high school baseball in a while. Pitching well thats another story. The Ace is deffinatly Woods, behind him King then Cox, Brace, Burney, and Sutton etc... mason lost 3 last year. but this year they lose Cox, Meadows, England, and Lykins which were 4 main contributers last year. I dont see the royals having that big of a down year. They work hard over Christmas and Jan. and Feb. and are always ready to play in March.

I hope that Coach Murph uses a rotation AND early on. If our pitching can get in a groove and become consistant then we will be good. The errors are a killer and show a lack of focus at times. I would love to see a team playing out there together and for each other. That is where the team leaders- THE SENIORS - need to step up. Does Coach Murphy use live pitching? I think he should set aside a certain amount of BP with the pitchers. Limit the number of pitches and the days for live BP but last year it seemed like our hitters were off timing their swings. Does coach have the pitching machine at 60 feet? I think that a short distance with the pitching machine could throw off where the batter's are picking up the ball and swinging. It is all timing. Last year, at times we couldn't buy a hit. These are just observations and questions. I can't wait for baseball.

Most college and high school programs, will move up the BP location closer than 60'-6".

It develops quick hands and enhances, hand-to-eye coordination. Timing will vary, based off the velocity of the pitcher. Most players just load as normal, work on contact and hitting through the baseball.

Many drills, will also be implemented from a close distance.

Brace will be at first if he plays. The sophmore you are talking about was the only other first basemen Mason Co. had other than Stafford, but he graduated. I heard someone very close to the Mason Co. program say that Coach Murphy said that this years team will be like the ones when he first started coaching at Mason Co. with Ullery. Something of the likes of 2-20... No offense to anyone who played on these teams but I heard he told his team this... Let's hear what some of you have to say about this!!

Who did you hear this from? Was he upset at the lack of hustle or something? I tend not to listen to second hand "witnesses" of what coaches "said". Did he publicly say it to the team and what was the context?

Is Brace even that good of a first baseman? I know these boys pretty well, and Brace didn't even play summer ball with them. If I were the coach, I would play the kid that has been on the team the longest AND that played summer ball with the team, whether they are a sophomore or not. This kid plays a pretty good first base.

I don't think Mason County will be 2-20. Definately not. They have Cox, Woods, King (pitcher and outfielder)... they should be decent. I wouldn't say powerhouse or anything, but I'd say they'll be alright.

I couldn't disagree with you more on this. Yes,the team should be established on commitment, dedication, talent, and desire. AND the best players should play. The field and the batter's box should be where a job is won or lost. All the above mentioned being equal. Take a lesson from Coach Buchanan - the best for the team = the best plays. I know a lot of parents do not want to hear that (believe me I know) but that is what makes sports - sports. The best should play!!! Period!!! If you are not the best.........then train, practice, and take the job back. :thumb::thumb:

I understand that short drills must be implemented to develop those small muscle groups, hand-eye coordination, reaction time. I mean just hitting off the tee is crucial. But if you are not getting live pitching or pitching machine is always short that can't be good either??? Just asking - how many days of week do your kids see live pitching(coach or 80%) or JUggs from 60 feet???

Combination, of short toss drills, tee work, station hitting, BP or machine daily. In normal weather, 5 days a week. During the season, on Wed. and short toss drills/tee, before each game. At home, quick round of live BP, with 6-4-3 swings. The distance away, is not relevant to me but proper mechanics, balance, hands through the zone is. This can be done, from any distance.

Close proximity BP, promotes quick hands and teaches the player, to focus on seeing the baseball, since it's much closer. At the same time, the machine throw is usually around 55-65, so simulate a mid 80's FB from 60'-6".

UK for example, does all tee work in the fall and rarely hits, live pitching before they play there Series.

I thought Coach Sims would do better than he has. I don't think there is enough discipline and respect from the players to say that he does a wonderful job.

Well from what I've seen, Scott may have become even more dangerous this year.

They have received a transfer from Holy Cross of man named Carl ??? (not sure on his last name) but apparently he is eligible to play and from what I've seen is an excellent ball player.

He is a catcher with a very good arm from the looks of it and hit the ball very well. He will be a senior this year so unfortunately the Eagles will only have him for one year from the looks of it. It seems assured that he will gain the starting duties of catcher that once belonged to Ryan Bianchi. However, this is a good thing because the Eagles are in some need of OF and they can use his speed there as he knows very well of the position.

It also seems that Adams is making a good, steady recovery from his injury as he is letting the ball go in practice very well. I haven't seen him let it all loose yet but I think he and the coaches are just taking it one step at a time as they should.

I think the Eagles are gaining ground on the Thoroughbreds and fast!

Should be a great year in the 10th!

Did this transfer see any Varsity time at all last season (in any sport)? If so it is my understanding he has to sit unless he gets approval from the state.

With or without the transfer player Scott should have a solid team again this year.

I believe Jordan Woodruff is going to have an outstanding year this year. He has battled back from a football injury earlier in the year and is ready to go. He is a good kid with a great work ethic. I am not sure how the bullpen will be this year, but they should have a good starting rotation.

I agree with you on the last part but this will help a weakness that Scott had last year and that was a strong arm at the catching position.

I've talked to several people and it seems he didn't play last year for varsity at holy cross and I'm not sure if he played high school baseball at all. I know he is apart of the Flames organization so I'm sure is very adept at the sport and he is from what I've seen and more.

So from the looks of things he will be eligible to play and if he is able to I think Scott is the clear favorite in the 37th district and is probably #2 in the region behind Harrison County but that is just my opinion. Scott will be fine on the mound as they will have a strong rotation yet again, maybe not as good as last years but still very good. Offensively, Adams, Murray, Adkins, Bianchi, Smith and Carl ??? will lead the way and should put some good numbers.

The only question I have for Scott is how will they fair in the outfield. Scott returns practically their entire infield, but they graduated a strong group of seniors that ran their outfield for 2-3 years. Hiller, Smith, Bianchi, and Hankinson will step into their positions with none of them having a lot of experience at the varsity level in the outfield.

I would not over look Montgomery this year, they have a solid core coming back from last years team that upset 10th region power Bourbon County in the first round of 40th district, also remember the name Cody Curtis, the kid could do big things on the diamond this year for the Indians.
