June 12, 200719 yr Peter Jennings was the best but I tend to agree with Dan, Katie tries to be serious but it just doesnt work. If I want serious news reporting then I will watch someone else. She either has to lighten up more than she does and make it less serious than she does or just quit and get out all together.

June 12, 200719 yr I watch Katie every night, and I have to say that Rather is correct. Katie does a great job of interviewing and I think she'd be good in a news magazine format full time. I like her, don't get me wrong. But I just don't think she's "news anchor" material. She's a very empathetic person, and I think the person doing the anchoring should be more of a taciturn individual.
June 12, 200719 yr Who says the news has to be smart and sophisticated? I want to know what's going on out there, and Katie Couric tells me that. There might be some fluff pieces in there in addition, but who really cares as long as the most important stories are told?

Pretty much the only TV news I watch is Jim Lehrer and that Gwen chick on PBS.

June 13, 200719 yr I never agree with Dan R. but I do this time. :thumb: :thumb: I agree this may have been the only time in his life that he has told the truth I didn't watch CBS new with Rather bc I can't stand him and likewise with Katie.

June 13, 200719 yr I remember Katie asking a U.S. Marine "What do you feel when you shoot an Arab terrorist?" The Marine replied "A slight recoil." Good journalism, Katie. Quality stuff.
