I agree. The Cuba Cubs. If you haven't read the book "When Cuba Conquered Kentucky" you should. It is a great book.

 

Time to name drop. My mother in law wrote this book and dedicated it to my son. Page 7 mentions my contribution to the book and really ties the book together IMO. I believe she said they are making a movie out of it now.

They Clay County Tigers and Bobby Keith story would be a great movie. Back in the late 80's when it was all going on NBC and CBS both did stories on them, even came to the homes of a few of the players such as Richie Farmer and a few of the other ones, The local Clay County tv station did a

20th year celebration and made a video about them and it was amazing. It showed all the news specials that had been done on them they were some by CBS, NBC, espn and others it was really interesting.

It was 1928. Carr Creek was the runner up of both the state tournament and national tournament in Chicago. Carr Creek got a lot of national press that year, much more than Ashland. Carr Creek played the entire season without calling a timeout and without making a single substitution. Carr Creek dd not have uniforms until the teachers of Eastern State Teachers College (now EKU) bought them uniforms for the state tournament. When the national tournament was over the Carr Creek team refused to come home to Kentucky for more than two weeks. First they tried to threaten them they would not graduate if they didn't return. When that didn't work they got them to return home by promissing them a dinner in their honor at the governor's mantion. They had been staying at the finest hotel in Chicago courtesy of Sears Roebuk Co and several civic organizations.

 

I think there were only 9 or 10 boys in the Carr Creek school at that time. They were miles from the nearest road. Of coarse they also had no gym to play in.

 

There is an excellent book about this team called The Carr Creek Saga. The last surviving member of this team passed away only a year or so ago.

If you've ever seen the Kentucky High School Basketball "The Season" documentary presented by ESPN, they talk about the 1928 Carr Creek team. They mention some of the stuff that rojas4 said and more.

 

They said that CC only had eight players and they all were related some way.

 

It also talks about how they didn't have transportation so they had to walk to practice and games. They had to walk 15 miles one way once for a ballgame.

 

It's a really interesting story. Carr Creek wouldn't be a bad choice.

My choice would be 1928 Carr Creek team. I believe they played in overhauls throughout the Season, and on outside Court. Some group paid for their uniforms when they went to the Nationals. This would be a great Movie equal to the Baseball Movie of Eight Man Out, about the Black Soxs World Series with Cincinnati Reds.
