Well the 98 Scott Co. team would be good simply because of the LexCath semi-final game. The Paintsville championship and Clay County championship would both be great stories.

The key to those 3 is 3 great charismatic coaches.

The Wayland team and King Kelly Coleman

The Clay County state championship team and Bobby Keith

The Paintsville championship.

The Ashalnd Tomcats (winningest team in state history)

The Mason County teams of 2003 & 2004 would make a good one. Not just the championship and runner-up finish but all the personal things for the coaching staff that went along with it.

 

Everyone remembers that Paul Andrews hit the shot, but, he also hit a huge free throw with 3 seconds to go to help beat Virgie in the semifinals 61-60. So he did much more than just that one shot.

 

Carr Creek would be a good one as well as Cuba. The Clay County-Ballard battles in the late 80's would be great.

Actually, Carlisle County didn't win the state title, but lost on a last-second shot in triple overtime to end what might be the best championship game ever.

 

Heck, I cried after the Comets lost that game ... so did most of Carlisle County. They were a heck of a team to watch.

For some reason, I forgot to mention it was Henry Clay ... the final was 35-33 in triple OT.

The only reason I would vote against the Cuba Cubs (and the book is GREAT) is that it mirrors the Hoosiers movie too closely.

 

I don't think the others have been told as often. That is why my choice is the '81 Simon Kenton team.
