May 30, 200719 yr Acemona There are no different creation stories. Ch 1 give the chronological order ie days1 then 2 etc. Ch 2 then goes on to explain and further describe in more detail. I'm not sure where you get different stories? It doesn't say that. Genesis 1:1 "in the beginning" Genesis 2:4 "This is the account of the heavens and earth when they were created . . ." Even if it is more descriptive, how do you describe the differen chronologies? Go read it before you say that chapter 2 is just more descriptive. You have read something into it that is not there - that is not literalism. It is an assumption Chapter 2 is much less descriptive than chapter 1. Chapter 1 takes 31 verses to get creation completed Chapter 2 takes 24 and three of those verses are giving the names of Rivers in and around the "garden". First "Old Testament" class I took at Centre I had to write a compare and contrast paper on the "2 DIFFERENT CREATION STORIES".
May 30, 200719 yr Hearsay-yes Acemona-I still don't understand where you are coming from. Ch 1 is chronological. Ch 2 starts to describe specifics ie Garden of Eden, rivers, etc. then it describes Adam/Eve
May 30, 200719 yr Author A question for spindoc. How old do you think the earth is? Well, I don't know frankly, but for argument sake, I don't think were talking billions of years. Do I think it's 6000? I believe it's closer to that than billions. I believe there is a more definite timeline to Noah and the flood. With regards to the timeline prior, I don't know with regards to man's calendar years. What do you believe?

Ch 2 starts to describe specifics ie Garden of Eden, rivers, etc. then it describes Adam/Eve Okay - I can now understand your literalism. Genesis 2:18 ff - It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him. Now the Lord God formed out of the ground all the beasts of the field and all the birds of the air. He brought them to the man to see what he would call them; and whatever the man called each living creture, that was its name. So the man gave names to all the livestock, the birds of the air and all the beasts of the fied. (wonder how long that took). But for Adam no suitable helper was found. So the Lord God caused the man to fall into a deep sleep; and while he was sleeping, he took one of the mans ribs and closed up the place with flesh. Then the Lord God made a woman from the rib . . and he brought her to the man. Genesis 1:27 God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them. So to make the stories jive, Adam named all of the animals of the earth in less than a day so that he and Eve could be created on the 6th day. Got it.

Nothing you quoted says he named them in one calendar day. Do you know who is considered the writer of the book of Genesis?
May 30, 200719 yr Nothing you quoted says he named them in one calendar day. Do you know who is considered the writer of the book of Genesis? But if he named them - found no suitable helper - then God creates Eve, and both Adam and Eve were created on the 6th day, he would have to have named them in one calendar day. Moses ia assumed to be the author and editor of most of the first five books of the the OT (the Pentateuch). Probably written in either the 15th or 13th centure BC., depending on when the Exodus occured (only a 200 year guess).
May 30, 200719 yr IM4THEHOUNDS - I believe it is you that is trapped within your own beliefs. Evolution is fact and is based on verifiable scientific evidence. I know this will blow your mind; but I believe in what you might call "Intelligent Evolution!" Yes, I believe that the world (and man) evolved just as it says in the science books -- the evidence being ponderous. But I believe that it has been created in God's time. His time is infinite and has no relation to our own. I believe, if you look at Genesis, you can see that the order in which it describes creation is exactly the order in which science tells us it happened. It happened in a span of time that is difficult for us as mere humans to understand. But it did happen, and it happened at the hand of God. I believe he created the world of his own design, and created us to be his family. Put simply, I see no conflict between evolution and belief in God. Please refer to post 128. Once again, you are entitled to believe what you wish. However, many credible and reliable scientists have refutted and turned away from the teachings of Darwin.
May 30, 200719 yr I have to say...I totally disagree with you, but I love your avatar! :thumb: Thanks.
May 30, 200719 yr My Biology professor at Centre was a deacon and Lexington Ave. Baptist Church in Danville and he taught evolution in class. I think he may have even mentioned the term - 'creation through evolution' at some point. A degree in biology does not mean that they have the truth. The Bible is the final authority.
May 30, 200719 yr Please refer to post 128. Once again, you are entitled to believe what you wish. However, many credible and reliable scientists have refutted and turned away from the teachings of Darwin. I keep seeing this brought up, yet no one offers a link.
May 30, 200719 yr By definition, something is scientific NOT if it can be proven right, but if it can be proven wrong. Evolution can be proven wrong (some of you say it already has been), so it is scientific. The belief in a supreme being, most would argue, cannot be proven wrong (excuse this, but even if we "found" Him, this would be proving it right, not wrong), so therefore He is not scientific.
May 30, 200719 yr For something to be scientific, wouldn't you agree that it should have to be able to be proven? I never said evolution was science, you did. And I have yet to be convinced via proof. So if you're asking me to believe in evolution because I couldn't blindly believe in creation, I'd argue that you "blindly" believe in evolution because you were taught it in the 7th grade. See my post above.
