AAU State Tournament

Featured Replies

From my understanding, 6' McCreary Central freshman foward Timmy Shepherd dropped 24 on Dakota Euton and the Adidas OBC Patriots in a losing effort. Shepherd is high school and AAU teammates with Aaron Watts, whose name has been included in arguments on who is better between Watts and Euton by members of this board. McCreary Central's tallest player on their AAU circuit is a 6'4 lanky, freshman foward.

How can you compare Euton and Watts? They play different positions.

Chad Jackson is a guard like Watts.

Shining Stars won by 25 over HLB and The Truth beat Urban Streets in the 17U

Shining Star 15u, 16u and 17u all went 3-0 in pool play. The Shining Star 16u and 17u teams play their first bracket games tonight at 9pm. The 15u team plays their first bracket game tommorow at 9am.

Good effort by the Shining Star Squads.

How did the Truth teams end up doing?

Of course, the relevant part of your post is "in a losing effort". Euton and Jackson, I'm sure contributed to the victory. As for who is "better", time will tell. Personally, I'll take Eutoin and Jackson and, from what I understand, Gillispie and the other coaches would do the same. Nonetheless, we wish your personal favorites well.

Who won/are will win the 14U?

I have to go through this again?

I'm not comparing Watts to Euton as the position. But, a thread last year had the argument of which was the better player? They averaged nearly the same amount of points, the rebounds favored Euton by a few - obviously because of his height - and the shooting percentages were in favor of Watts as well.

A losing effort that only includes kids from a small county that has one middle school and high school. McCreary's tallest player is 6'4, an inch smaller than Jackson, a guard for the Patriots, and several inches smaller than several players for the OBC Patriots, including Euton. From my understanding, and WildcatFans' opinion, the Patriots have the #1 freshman from Ohio, the #1 freshman from West Virginia, and the top three freshmen from Kentucky compared to a team based solely from McCreary County. Obviously Jackson and Euton are getting "noticed" more because they are on a high-profile AAU team and are in a larger area than Watts. Since you didn't comment about Watts, scooterbob, I assume you didn't see the game.

Best of the Bluegrass, a player ranking system in Kentucky, has Euton, Jackson and Watts as interchangable top three players in the class of 2010.

The 16u beat Mason Countys freshman with 4 sophomores by 16 this evening

Ds East is in the semifinals against the shining stars after beating Team Kentucky, Northern Kentucky Royals to win the pool and the DS West team in the quarterfinals.

Competition sunday should be pretty good, finals at 1pm at KBA if anyone is interested in attending.

Also interesting to see Elliot County beat a much bigger DS east 16u team in the quarterfinals tonight. Got to hand it to the Elliot county team, they will be the only school team still playing Sunday:thumb:

Did you watched the game SSF? If you did watch the game, how would rank the players after watching the 3 play on the same court.

I would rank them like so:

1a. Jackson

1b. Watts

3. Euton

I give the advantage to Jackson because of his height. Watts is an outstanding - I mean, can't miss - shooter and quick as a cat. McCreary Central recently held a class basketball tournament, where players from each class played against eachother. The freshmen ended up winning the tournament and Watts went 7-9 from three-point range in the last game. This kid is good. Jackson is good too. I think Watts is probably the better player, but Jackson's height is a huge advantage for him and that's why I think they're 1-2 in any order. Euton is very good too, but I think that his height is a huge reason as why he is that good. Anyone that is 6'7-6'8 is going to have an advantage against most people at the high school level. I think he is a very, very close 3rd behind Jackson and Watts.

Elliot also had Charlotte Court beat but some bad decisions down the stretch cost them. I was very impressed with the twins and Ferguson.

SSF again, So Watts going 7-9 in a class tournament makes him a great player! WOW maybe we can stats from others players across the STATE from their class tournament.

Update:

Shining Stars defeated N.Ky Jazz 59-48 today to win the 17U state championship

Charlotte Court won the 16U state championship

In the 17's semi-finals Shining Stars beat Derek Smith East by 1, and the Jazz came back from being behind most of the game to Team Kentucky to win by 2.
