AAU State Tournament

The Patriots won the 15u as well. All three champions are no surprise to me.

SSF again, So Watts going 7-9 in a class tournament makes him a great player! WOW maybe we can stats from others players across the STATE from their class tournament.

I was just mentioning it, no need to be a smart aleck. I don't know if you have seen Watts or not, but it seems to me that he shot nearly 50% from three last season (will look it up just to make sure). His outside shooting is even better now and I think he will shoot a better percentage next year, which would be extremely high. He doesn't get much attention outside of the 12th Region schools, in which he is obviously the best player. He plays for a county AAU team, but they have done pretty well and if they can get the funding, they will be in Chicago later this summer.

Dakatoh Euton was huge in the championship game. He made big shot after big shot. He shoots the ball so well from the perimeter. He is a tough matchup.

The Shining Star Sports teams had a great weekend. Overall the three teams went 14 wins and 2 losses. (15u loss to OBC Patriots and 16u loss to Charlotte Court) Both losses were to the eventual champion in the age group. 15u and 16u finished in the final four and the 17u team won the championship.

Not a bad accomplishment for this only being the second year of the Kentucky program. In the two years the 17u team has a 2nd and 1st place finish in the tourney.

Congrats!!

From my understanding, 6' McCreary Central freshman foward Timmy Shepherd dropped 24 on Dakota Euton and the Adidas OBC Patriots in a losing effort. Shepherd is high school and AAU teammates with Aaron Watts, whose name has been included in arguments on who is better between Watts and Euton by members of this board. McCreary Central's tallest player on their AAU circuit is a 6'4 lanky, freshman foward.

I was there and saw the official score book after the game. The next highest scorer to Watts in this game was #0, who had 11 points. The number of points an individual has is irrelevant when you lose by 29.

I attended the AAU state tourney at the KBA this weekend and watched the semifinals but was unable to watch the finals.

What I saw was a great performance from quite a few players...Arrez Henderson was everywhere both offensively and defensively. He is one of the most underrated players in the state...He's not on the same level as Miller, Mackey, and Hopson but he is right behind them (height hurts him a little...but he makes up for it in other ways). I

I liked a Matt something from Ashland...I thought he was a very strong and talented player. He needs to work on being that player the whole game but he does have the talent.

Was not impressed with Clark Stepp what so ever...totally overrated b/c he has a very unorthodox shot that he rarely makes and dribbles the ball entirely too much. I can see where he would be good in the mountains though...I was more impressed with Landon Sloan than Stepp.

I saw two hardnosed players in Nathan Novosel and Cameron Hundley who seem to do the things that no one else wants to do...they also score well Novosel has very good feet and hands in the post. Hundley is improving his perimeter ball handling skills and is starting to knock down jumpers.

I like the Elliot County guards including the twins and Maynard. They have a deadly backcourt...if they can find a post that can alleviate some of the pressure they will be a tought team to beat. The twins are very charismatic and I really enjoy watching them and wanting them to do well.

Montgomery County has a center that has a lot of upside. He seems to run well, have good hands, and finish well. If he works on his post moves and using both hands he will be a force.

These are all just my opinions...please add or reply to these comments.

Good to hear that Hundley is shooting the ball well. With Phares and Lee possibly playing the 4/5 next year they need another guard in the backcourt with Mackey and Portwood....With that line up ballhandling could be an issue, going to be hard not to to start back up guard Jordan Adams his senior year....I guess it's a good problem to have too much talent! Just my opinion

Considering the way Phares played this weekend it definitely be surprising if he is not starting. Like waterboy states the ballhandling could be an issue especially with their schedule. If Adams does not start I imagine he will play 3/4 of the game. Not only is he a good ball handler but he is a tremendous shooter. Good problem to have once again for Coach Hicks.

Ds East is in the semifinals against the shining stars after beating Team Kentucky, Northern Kentucky Royals to win the pool and the DS West team in the quarterfinals.

Competition sunday should be pretty good, finals at 1pm at KBA if anyone is interested in attending.

Also interesting to see Elliot County beat a much bigger DS east 16u team in the quarterfinals tonight. Got to hand it to the Elliot county team, they will be the only school team still playing Sunday:thumb:

Size doesn't matter if you turn the ball over 25 times or so!

One of our other players who hasn't been mentioned yet is Noah Keeton from Lincoln Co., having him in our backcourt with Maynard is a blessing, if they are both on at the same time it is scary.

Keeton was 7-8 from the three Vs the Jazz, 6-8 Vs the Truth, and had 7 Vs DSAS East, 5 of them being in the last quarter.

Lincoln Co. has another guard who can flat out handle the ball, Soph Trevor Edgington. Lincoln Co should be another good team to watch again this fall and winter.

A lot of good teams this year, it was great if you were a basketball fan seeing all this talent from the 15-16-17's.

Arrez Henderson has become a very complete player this year. He has great handles, shoots the ball well from the perimeter, can jump out of the gym, and is one of the top defenders in the state of Kentucky.

He could have made a highlight film this weekend with his steals, blocked shots and high flying dunks.

There is not much that this kid can't do.

Holmes will have the 9th region player of the year for a third consecutive year.

Austin Hill was one of the top players in our orginization last year as well as one of the top players in the state of Kentucky. I would have to say that Arrez is a better all around player than Austin was at this point last year.

Congrats to Arrez for winning the championship!!

The Shining Star Sports 17u team is now done until July. They are going to be playing a pretty nice schedule during the month of July. They have a fantastic core group with Gifford, Simpson, Henderson, Sparks, Nelson, Ponzer, Hall, etc..

They are looking to find a couple of bigs to really help them in July because a couple of the guys will not be available in July.

Does anyone know of any impact bigs that would want to play with that group?

Congrats to Noah Keeton on his play this weekend. As the defenses concentrated their efforts to keep Maynard from beating them Keeton stepped up huge and put on an ubelievable shooting performance. He & the big Stephens kid showed everyone that you better remember their names with the top players in the state. This 08' class is loaded! You have the top 3-4 D1 above the rest but there are a lot of mid level & NAIA players out there in this class.
