How much of the leaving had to due with the unfortunate incident last summer?

Wonder if Gordon Powers (former coach at Owensboro), now coaching in Georgia would be a good candidate.

Is this really a job that everyone sells it up to be? I mean, they have had some VERY good coaches there and NONE of them have been able to even get a shot at winning it all. Now, I know that there has been a lot of winning done at Henderson, but not to the degree that everyone seems to think it ought to have. No Finals appearances since 1976. The largest school in KY, a school that has turned out some super talent, hasn't seen the finals in 21 years. Of course X and some other really good teams have been in the way, but as a top flight coaches who want to win rings, do the applicants look at this job as a place with expectations that will never be met, and a place that has been so traumatized that it may never recover fully?

Football is a no-cut sport in Henderson.

I think it would be a mistake and I will leave it at that.

Henderson is in a major time crunch, however, I am sure they have already started contacting people or people have contacted them.

 

I would think Lawson is out of picture and would question character if he ditched Central. Coverdale seems happy back at Trinity.

It is well known that the Duffy's run everyone off that is not a die hard of die hards. It is much easier to get away with that approach at smaller schools and nearly impossible to do so in large school football.

 

Henderson needs to hire the most personable coach they can find that is also competent. In other words, it needs to be personality first in the coaching search because Hendo has plenty of material.

I'm not claiming in any way that Coverdale and Lawson will have an interest in Henderson, given their current situations. I'm only saying that those are two coaches that Henderson would have an interest in.

I've heard from another Coach who knows Gordon Powers that he's happy in Georgia. There was a brief rumor that Christian Co. contacted him about their opening.

 

My personal opinion is this move is best for all involved. Say what you will about the Duffy's low numbers but you can't question how hard the kids played for either Tom or Duffer. I've been around Duffer in the past and got to see his sense of humor side.

 

Duff is going to a place where he is wanted and it's a fresh start for him and his family.

 

This possibility has been swirling for close to a month and many who knows Duffer knew he was leaving so I would say the Henderson administration has been putting some names of replacements together for when his resignation became official.

Coach Duffy commented to me and another Coach a year ago about a certain Coach that wanted to be his replacement. Lawson & Coverdale were not mentioned although Henderson would be lucky to land either one of those two. The name brought up has already accepted a position at another school.

Higgins-to-Henderson rumors were rampant in western Kentucky at one time, although it appears that some people in Henderson's administration had other preferences.

The approach of that coaching family is simply that if someone cannot play, pay the price, willing to work, and be totally dedicated, then they are run off. I see their point to a point, but with that being said, times change and so must styles. I will leave it at that.
