May 7, 200719 yr I used to like Roger Clemens, but these past few years, it seems like he's put himself above the game. I agree with you. Still, I would have to say that he's smart. He's set for life, his kids are set for life, and his grandkids are set for life. One more year and the great grandkids will be doing ok.

May 7, 200719 yr Clemens is one of the all-time greats; but what a gravy train he's on. No spring training, prostitute yourself to the highest bidder; pitch for a few months, repeat. Not that I blame him - if the clubs are willing to let him get away with it, more power to him.

It's amazing to me that a man like Roger Clemens, who I respect greatly, would act this way. What he's doing is exactly what is wrong with baseball, and one of the many reasons why I have lost interest in what used to be my favorite sport throughout the years. At least he admits that he only wants to play half a season, though.

Clemens puts himself above the game by only playing half a season. There's really no medical reason for this, and with his offseason workout regime, he can still withstand an entire season. And yes, some of the owners who are willing to pay him this ungodly amount of money for half a season are at fault too.

May 8, 200719 yr I agree the game needs a salary cap....All the other major sports have it, and it works great. Clemens IMO is tarnishing his legacy. It's obvious he cares nothing about playing baseball, only about $$. If I were Jeter, ARod, etc I would be pretty ticked that Clemens doesn't have to travel if he isn't pitching, etc. While it'll help the Yanks, I'm not sure this is the type of move they needed to make. Once the rotation got healthy they were going to be okay there. Where they needed to improve, and they still do, is the bullpen. Clemens isn't going to go more than 6, maybe 7 innings anymore. That bullpen can blow games with anyone, Reds included.

The Yankee's are shelling out 28 million dollars just for a half season of baseball. If Clemens comes out sour or doesn't bring the Yankee's to where they want to be, then this will be the biggest misuse of 30 mil in the history of the league. When the Rocket comes back he will likely only go 6 to 7 innings at the most, and with an already worked to death Bullpen, the load will only get heavier and they will be burnt out by August. He will have the run support, but with the state of the Yankee rotation, injury's may lead to some problems for Clemens too being that he will have to anchor a severely depleated rotation.

May 8, 200719 yr Supply and demand. What does this say to guys like Rich Harden, Ben Sheets, Cole Hamels of a Jake Peavy.. preserve your arms and you might make a fortune at the end of your career. I don't like the Yankees either. But Steiny puts a lot of money into his investement. Other teams could do it but don't.
