May 3, 200719 yr With gas prices skyrocketing, My Dodge Ram with the 5.7 Hemi is really eating through gas, I'm spending in the neighborhood of 250 per month on gas and if gas hits 3.50 or 4.00 per gallon this summer, its gonna be 400 per month in gas. You put that with my 320 a month payment, I'm gonna be spending over $700:scared: just to drive. So I'm thinking of trading in on like a Honda civic. What do you guys think?
May 3, 200719 yr If you have no need for a truck, you should consider getting rid of it. If you sometimes need a truck, I'd consider buying an older model economical car to run around in. You'll save money on gas and probably won't pay much more for insurance with the multi-car discount, lower mileage on the truck and liability only on the car.

May 3, 200719 yr With that type of gas spending I wouldn't think twice. It's not a sexy car by any means but I love my Carolla, $15 a week in gas does the job, can't beat that.

I have to drive about 30 miles a day round trip to work so I went out a bought a 93 Ford Escort. It isn't pretty but I have cut my gas cost in half. The best thing is I only paid $700 for the car so it has more then paid for itself.

May 3, 200719 yr Rocket, No relief is in view. You figure with the new president in 2008, who will most likely be democrat. But it's gonna take them a year to get anything rolling. I don't see any relief until 09 at the earliest. If you think this is a Democrat/Republican issue, then you are somewhat misguided on this whole issue. Democrats: For lower gas prices Republicans: For high gas prices Come on now...

I guess my question would be, why do you need a truck with a 5.7 Hemi engine? Is it honestly utilized/necessary in your daily life? If you are just using that to go to work and back on a daily basis, it might be worth your while to downgrade... if you do not want a Civic (or a good gas mileage car), get a smaller truck that gets better gas mileage than a V8.

Over the past few summers, we have seen the trend of gas prices rising up closer and closer to that $3 per gallon mark and then dropping down as fall and winter approach. It appears that gas may get up as high as the $3.40-$3.50 mark this summer, but like other posters have said, go out and buy an older, economical, small car if it is really hurting you that bad!:ylsuper:
