Pikeville lost their three best linemen with Casey Rowe, Jordan Tibbs, and Brad Bryant graduating. They also lost one of their top WR/CB in Jacob Sword, but there is a great deal of talent returning for the Panthers this season. All purpose players Daniel Harmon, Tim Honaker, and Ted Honaker will all be returning this season as well as a great deal of other players. Something that will hurt Pikeville will be the loss of Senior-to-be Eric Shockey to a knee injury suffered at a track meet. He would have probably contributed at TE and maybe backup QB on offense and Safety or weak linebacker on defense.

 

This Panther team has a great deal of talent, I believe one issue will be finding some guys to step in on the line. But as always Coach Jackson and his staff have been relentlessly working with the kids in the weightroom, and I'm confident there will be guys who will step up. If things continue the way they did last year, the Panthers will need some improvement in the passing game to help with their dominating multi-dimensional rushing attack. I think the biggest overall question for Pikeville will be finding leadership on the field. Last years senior class with John Michael Mayo, Ryan Shurtleff, Brad Bryant, and Casey Rowe (among others) were truly great leaders. This upcoming senior class needs to prove that they can step up and lead this team to where it is capable of going.

 

I believe the new alignment really helps Pikeville, as now they wouldn't match up with Beechwood and the like until the Finals. Pikeville SHOULD be among the top 2 or 3 teams in their half of the state.

I agree. Its my belief that we could hang with any 1a team in the state when these boys decide they want to play. Our schedule IMO will really help us get ready for playoff time. If the leadership ? can be answered and a few holes can be filled on the line IMO theyre is no limit as to how far we can go.

Sounds like you guys have some quality skill position players coming up or coming back....Linemen are, at least, alot easier to develop and replace.. I wouldn't worry too much about the leadership ?, the Srs always seem to step it up when there time comes and with the past tradition at Pikeville, they won't want to disappoint...

For my money I only see 4 teams with a definitive chance to take the 1A title:

 

Beechwood

Frankfort

Mayfield

Pikeville

 

Lynn Camp, LCA, Holy Cross, and Raceland are the only other teams I see that have any chance of making noise outside of those 4.

I agree that Beechwood is a power in class a ball,but as far as the tradition how much did they have before Yeagle arrived?

 

Coach Barre started the BW tradition that Coach Yeagle took to the next level before moving on to Cincy if I'm not mistaken?? They've been a force in class A for quite a while!!

Looks like Beechwood is in the same boat as Mayfield now, I didn't know what their district looked like before. I would watch Bishop Brossart, they seem to be an up and coming team to me.

Mileslid I dont rember how Beechwood did last year. How does a one A team have so much size, maybe you could sale some water. Sounds like a college OL. I`m envious!!! I don't see how they can be heads over a Team like Mayfield, we will have a pretty nice running back tandem ourselves, it actually looks like a triple threat in Trevarthen, Noonan and Murrell. I just think its too early to be saying that they are "heads over the rest". I too am amazed at that O-line.

I am excited to see the Cards backs this year and if the young line, who is not too bad on size wise themselves can come together as a group this Mayfield team should be poised once again to make noise in the Class A playoffs. Good thing is that we can see this all pan out beginning five weeks from today...GO CARDS!!!
