Lexington Christian was probably a legitimate top-six team in Class A in 2005 ... beat Beechwood in the playoffs and lost to Newport Catholic in the quarterfinals.

Beechwood was just having a "off season" that year.

 

There will be others to step up in the public system to replace The NCCs and Danvilles, etc...

 

LCA is good and well coached- but at this point I don't see them being elite.

Everyone thinks LCA is in a easy district-so with that being said, what is their winning record out of their district?

 

Beechwood by far, IMO, has the best Class A, (continuous) Tradition.

Danville too but now are no longer in Class A...

I agree yet disagree...Beechwood has a very strong tradition, but, saying it's BY FAR the best is inacurrate...Last i checked, Mayfield had 7 state championships, 6 runner ups and holds a 2-0 series advantage over the Beechies...Not to disagree, but, imo, it's alot closer than your BY FAR statement...

Actually tradition is something accomplished over time and Mayfields tradition goes alot further back than the early 90s...they were runner up in 75, won it in 76 and 77, again in 84, 85 and then in 93...All these were in 2a and then again in 95 and 02 and runner up in 98 and 05, since being in 1a...I'm not sure which other years they were runnerups, but, I'm sure it was overlapping with these championships.And, prior to 75, Mayfield had some outstanding teams and are in the top 2 or 3 in most wins by a program in the state...I stick by my statement that theres not much, if any more tradition at Beechwood, certainly not BY FAR, as you stated....

1.) I tend to disagree on LCA, they have a very strong program and are as you said VERY well coached. I don't know about year in and year out but I do believe that they can be right there in the thick of things this coming season. The Eagles were a very young team last season that was loaded with talent.

You are exactly right however, BHS has 8 state titles and 3 runner-ups, ALL IN CLASS A. This is what we are talking about. Beechwood by far the best in Class A.

 

Mayfield has a great tradition of football and the BHS faithful know how good it is too well. Maybe we will get another shot at the Cardinals again this coming yr.

 

As for LCA being an elite team, not yet. What have they done? Being a contender for the last 2/3 yrs doesn't put a team in the elite catagory, IMO. Get to the finals and win a few and maybe then be considered w/the elite teams.

Seems like a blinded opinion...Where is the big gap? 9 championships to 7..Is it overall wins? That goes in Mayfields favor? Is it # of appearances in the finals? That goes in Mayfields favor also. Is it head to head? Thats 2-0 in Mayfields favor, as well. Is it consistent longevity? Mayfields 1st championship was 1976... Just curious where the BY FAR comes from... I give Beechwood credit, they're an outstanding program and deserves the props, but, in no way are they head and shoulders above Mayfield, like some seem to think...
