LCA-one of the best coaches in the state? WOW!

 

PLD2, you always seem to down Paul Rains from his time at Madison Central to now at LCA, I'm just curious as to why?

The year before last. NCC and maybe Danville were the only teams that were gonna beat them in class A that year. And it wasn't because the two mentioned had more talent, but i think poss. better decision-making.

 

 

Hate to break it to you, but Ncc had more talent than Lca in 2005. Ncc was loaded that year.

I thought this was a top 10 in class A. You'll get off your high horse and pick the top 10, not the top 4 you narrow minded competitors.

Because not only has he underachieved with quite a few teams, but he doesn't take the responsibility for doing so. Examples: MC-'96, '99, '00, '02, LCA-'04 AND '05. His teams never really get better as the season goes and he never really seems to adjust during a game. Now it is time for everyone to start arguing over who they picked

and who is elite who isn't, who has the most tradition and who doesn't, and so on....

I give Mayfield the edge this year if the QB position works out for em, otherwise, I give it to Beechwood. But I think that Beechwood has a tougher playoff road ahead of em leading up to a long trip to Mayfield for the semis, so that edge belongs to Mayfield this year as well.

All I have heard and seen from or about him through the years is that he has been very sucsessful. He had some very good teams at MC and has built a fine program at L.C.A..

Very good REGULAR SEASON teams. He never made it to a regional championship game until LCA '05. The team that had Parks and Jenkins at Central should've at least made it that far. They were fast and very good. Check on it.

There is nothing in Rains' record that indicates he is one of the best coaches in the state. He seems to have done a good job of developing Lexington Christian's program.

That's because LCA has good athletes. Look at the baseball team. The basketball team has done well in the All-A classic winning the region a few times. I'm not sayin that Rains is horrible, but that with a great amount of talented, he has done less than expected. He is average.

I honestly think Pikeville is a top 4 team year in and year out under this new alignment. Coach Jackson is a young coach, who IMO will be a GREAT coach (already a good coach) with age. The man has that young man's passion that only gets better with "season."

 

With time, Coach J will get better and so will his teams. Pikeville has as nice a base to draw from as any other team in this class. IMO, there is no excuse for climbing back to the top.

 

What do they have coming back as far as returning starters? Who are some of the up and coming talent in the lower classes? Who were there biggest loss or who'll be hardest to replace and what areas will they need to improve in to be a championship caliber team, ala" Lineplay, QB, passing game, secondary, etc...

What are you sniffing? Since '95, BHS has won 4 w/3 runner's up, Danville won 2/2, Mayfield 2/2. Since you brought NCC into it, they have won 2/2. Bad comparisons! You are just a Beechwood hater but then most people don't like winners.

 

Yes to your not been in 1a as long. What have they done better than Beechwood since being in 1a, nothing!

 

Shooter, I'm not sniffing anything...I have given Beechwood props for being an outstanding program...Find where I've said otherwise...As far as bringing NCC and Danville into it, I only did that because the question was asked, when you think of 1a football, who does most people think of and my response was I think of NCC, Danville, just saying I think of them as well as as Mayfield, Bardstown, just as much as I do Beechwood.. I'm not a Beechwood hater, by any means, I have respect for there program as they deserve, but, there are folks in the other parts of the state besides NKy, who don't think Beechwood is BY FAR dominant... Sorry if I offended... I do like winners, by the way, thats why I support the Cardinals....

Pikeville lost their three best linemen with Casey Rowe, Jordan Tibbs, and Brad Bryant graduating. They also lost one of their top WR/CB in Jacob Sword, but there is a great deal of talent returning for the Panthers this season. All purpose players Daniel Harmon, Tim Honaker, and Ted Honaker will all be returning this season as well as a great deal of other players. Something that will hurt Pikeville will be the loss of Senior-to-be Eric Shockey to a knee injury suffered at a track meet. He would have probably contributed at TE and maybe backup QB on offense and Safety or weak linebacker on defense.

 

This Panther team has a great deal of talent, I believe one issue will be finding some guys to step in on the line. But as always Coach Jackson and his staff have been relentlessly working with the kids in the weightroom, and I'm confident there will be guys who will step up. If things continue the way they did last year, the Panthers will need some improvement in the passing game to help with their dominating multi-dimensional rushing attack. I think the biggest overall question for Pikeville will be finding leadership on the field. Last years senior class with John Michael Mayo, Ryan Shurtleff, Brad Bryant, and Casey Rowe (among others) were truly great leaders. This upcoming senior class needs to prove that they can step up and lead this team to where it is capable of going.
